NEW DESIGNER DEBUTS AFRO FUTURIST SHORT FILM WITH CORRESPONDING WOMEN'S UNDERWEAR LINE

Nationwide The first Black-owned and operated Contemporary Creative House announces ‘Thirty’ -- its first art production that includes both a short film and limited release of luxury women’s underwear.

'Thirty' is the newest American afro-futuristic short film and art project written, directed, and produced by American artist and designer Shrodrick Spikes and co-produced by Spelman College Alumna, Diamond Sands. The independent film premieres on August 22, 2020, and marks Spikes’ transition from art shows to immersive multimedia art experiences.

Set in current day 2020, Thirty focuses on the experiences of designer Day Blanco as she spends her thirtieth birthday home alone due to the COVID-19 pandemic and as things take a mysterious turn when she falls asleep. The film stars model and fashion designer Deshanique Blanco and was filmed at the white Haus Gables asymmetrical home in Atlanta's Old Fourth Ward. The home was designed by award-winning architect, Jennifer Bonner.

Black Lives, Black Words Project Continues "Plays for the People" Series

Nationwide -- An international project called Black Lives, Black Words is continuing their Plays for the People season with five new plays. Dedicated to social justice, the project commissions, develops, and produces bold and unapologetic artistic responses to current social and political issues. The founders of the project comment, “We’re so thrilled about the rest of these plays for our Plays for the People Season. We have a dynamic line-up each written, directed, and most importantly produced by Black artists with a mission to serve the Black community at the heart of our mission. We’re bringing a revolution through these hybrid live theatrical and cinematic productions which we hold through Zoom.”

The month of August concludes with a production of the BUTTAFLY PRECINCT (August 20-23), written and directed by Sha Cage, and featuring Ashe Jafaaru, Ava Saunders, and Javari Horne.

Talented Black Filmmaker Launches Book Tour

TALENTED BLACK FILMMAKER, DERRICK MUHAMMAD, LAUNCHES BOOK TOUR

Nationwide Georgia filmmaker and author Derrick Muhammad has released his long-awaited autobiographical book, Guerilla Film Grind, detailing his experiences in the often very turbulent world of filmmaking.

The book traces the origins of Muhammad’s film career from his time as a young man coming of age in Columbus, OH to his challenging days in Hollywood as an aspiring writer and director. It serves as a guide for aspiring filmmakers who are unsure where to start or what direction to move in.

His approach has been described as “raw, uncut, honest and in your face”.

BLACK AUTHOR RELEASES NEW BOOK ON HOW TO MAINTAIN GOING TO THE TOILET TWICE A DAY

Nationwide An African American author who goes by the name of C.S. (Clean Stomach) has released a new book entitled 2 + Bowel Movements A Day: A Natural Way to Maintain Going to the Toilet Regularly, Getting Rid Of Excess Waste, and Becoming More Lean. The book was inspired by his personal experience when he began experiencing unexplained weight loss and more than regular bowel movements.

He decided to write this book to help others who may be experiencing similar problems because he himself had family members who also had problem with their bowels - either they were irregular or they had problems with their weight, especially around the waistline.

Mobile Health App Creates Community for Blacks

NEW MOBILE HEALTH APP CREATES COMMUNITY FOR BLACKS TO ACCESS CREDIBLE, TRUSTWORTHY INFORMATION

Nationwide A Florida entrepreneur has launched a new app that provides access to practical, credible, and trustworthy health information to help Blacks around the country who continue to face health disparities at an alarming rate, particularly during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Eric Chiyembekeza, founder of ourHealth Community, calls the app the only professional community geared towards increasing the visibility and accessibility of information pertaining to Black health. The ourHealth app is available in the Apple and Google app stores. Chiyembekeza points out that the data shows that Black people are dying from the coronavirus at a higher rate than whites. He adds that the Centers for Disease Control points out that 13.8 percent of blacks are in fair or poor health compared with 8.3 percent of whites and that the leading causes of death are heart disease and cancer.

Inspired by the country’s current events, 19-year old screenwriter Troy Oglesby Jr. has developed an action-packed tale of the times entitled Rebel Rules. The thrilling novel is a real-time fictional depiction of our transforming reality. As our world shifts, so much human history is developing from many aspects of life. It is important that we dictate these stories to capture the essence of our current affairs and recreate them for future Americans to consume.

The main character in Rebel Rules is a young army vet named Nick who faces several layers of internal conflict. His upbringing in the inner city prepared him for the tragedy of war but nothing could prepare him to lose a close friend in battle. When Nick returns home, he begins to live independently and he is triggered by an act of injustice which was the catalyst for his protest. As events spiral, Nick collides with a powerhouse group of characters with one goal in mind, a government heist. Each character shares a special skill set setting the story line up for a whirlwind of adventure.

Seeing the need to streamline this process, entrepreneur Franny Crooks created the Black Rich Listings directory as a place where consumers can patronize and support categorized Black-owned businesses with a few simple clicks.

Unlike other business directories that simply provide contact information, Black Rich Listings will give back to registered businesses by providing free and low-cost promotional opportunities, business grants and resources, vendor lists, tutorials provided by other black professionals, networking events, and exclusive retreats.

EDUCATORS ARE USING BLACKHISTORY.COM TO TEACH STUDENTS WHAT TEXTBOOKS LEAVE OUT

Nationwide Textbooks are failing public schools, community colleges, and universities when it comes to African American history. Therefore, many teachers and professors are teaching their students from credible web sites like BlackHistory.com that reveal little-known facts about Black culture, inventions, and more.

The web site was launched more than two years ago and adds weekly content that surpasses the fundamentals that are covered in most schools across the country. Sadly, most curriculums for Black history are just basic lessons about the likes of Rosa Parks, Martin Luther King, Jr., Frederick Douglass, Harriet Tubman, and Malcolm X.
