 Meet Emmy Award-Winning Journalist, Producer and Talk Show Host Rock Star: Cathleen Trigg-Jones

In celebration of Black History Month, we are saluting Cathleen Trigg-Jones, a rock star in her own right!

The celebrated Emmy award-winning journalist, talk show host, producer and actress has co-starred in more than a dozen TV shows and films, including: Power, Madam Secretary, House of Cards, Homeland, and the Tupac Shakur biopic, All Eyes On Me. She is the Executive Producer and Host of the talk show Chic Chat on iOne Digital and creator and co-star of the hit docu-series We are the Joneses, which airs on Discovery Life. 

A former news anchor and reporter for My9 and Fox 5 News broadcasts in New York City, Cathleen’s on-air career in television, radio and film spans more than two decades. Behind the scenes, Cathleen is fueled by her passion for creating and producing television and film projects under the umbrella of her own multi-media production, advertising and marketing company, Catscape Productions, which she founded in 2006. 

Catscape is a collective and incubator for women in film and television focused on producing content that is responsible, entertaining and socially charged in hopes of changing the landscape of how women are portrayed in the media, in front of and behind the camera. And in keeping with her quest to empower women everywhere, Cathleen is launching an OTT, called iWoman, which will stream content produced by women, for everyone.

Black Men and Intimacy – Voices From Across the Diaspora by Therez Fleetwood explores the complexities of relationships through the minds of Black men in the 21st century. She says she spent hundreds of hours having one-on-one conversations with 50+ Black men from ages 20 to 70, who gave no holds barred answers to intimate questions that are seldom discussed in relationships.

FOUNDERS OF BLACK-OWNED PLANT-BASED MANUFACTURER CLOSE $6M SERIES A FUNDING ROUND

Meet Duane “Myko” Cheers and Danita Claytor, the co-founders of Everything Legendary, a Black-owned plant-based food brand with legendary flavor, that have just closed $6 million dollars in Series A funding. The round was led by CircleUp Growth Partners with additional investments from the venture capital arm of General Mills, 301 INC, and Mark Cuban. Also, International Entrepreneur and Record Executive, Russell Simmons joined the all-star team as a Senior Advisor.

The rapid rise of Everything Legendary, the nation’s fastest-growing plant-based meat company, began in early 2021 when they were hand-making burgers in their own kitchen. In just 10 months they went from zero to 1500 grocery store shelves including Safeway, Acme, Giant, Target, Ralphs, Kings, and Balduccis, with additional placements coming in Sprouts, Meijer, Publix, and more in early 2022. at Oklahoma Thunders Game! 

Billboard chart-topping recording artist and songwriter Titus Showers wows sports fans with his National Anthem and Lift Every Voice and Sing rendition at the Oklahoma Thunder vs Golden State Warriors game on Monday, February 7 at 8 PM ET. The game was held at Paycom Center in Oklahoma.

"It was truly an amazing experience as the special guest singer for the Oklahoma Thunder game," says Showers.

Titus Showers first made his mark in Gospel as the lead singer for the two-time Stellar Award-nominated family band, The Showers. He stepped out with his debut solo EP WHO in 2019 that debuted at #1 on Billboard Top Gospel Albums Chart.

2022 PRINCETON UNIVERSITY SUMMER PROGRAM FOR BLACK TEEN GIRLS NOW AVAILABLE ONLINE

The program celebrates over 10 years of empowering minority youth to be global leaders

Black excellence and effective leadership are essential for a thriving African-American community to survive any world crisis. Jacqueline Glass-Campbell, CEO of At the Well Conferences, Inc. (ATW), celebrates molding the masterminds of tomorrow by introducing At the Well Young Women’s Leadership Academy’s Online Distance Learning Program.

The program was created for young minority women out of a commitment to increase awareness of the essential tools required to aid them in becoming successful leaders. By promoting excellence in education, young talent will transform their communities. Girls are encouraged to live beyond their limitations, achieve beyond their dreams, and impact communities beyond their reach.

Due to the current and uncertain pandemic, the 2022 summer At The Well Leadership Academy will be conducted in a virtual environment that will be easily accessible and affordable. Registration is now open on the official website at www.atthewellconferences.org

Tuition is $399, which includes the Four Day Online Distance Learning Program and one Fall/Winter Leadership Workshop. There is no application fee.

HISTORY-MAKING YOUNG BLACK HOTEL OWNER, JESSICA MYERS, SAYS SHE’S ‘THE DEALMAKER’ WHO CAN HELP YOU REALIZE YOUR FINANCIAL DREAMS

Jessica Myers wears a lot of hats. Entrepreneur. House flipper. Real estate investor. Even history-making hotel owner is an accurate distinction. But the 34-year-old, says she prefers to be known simply as “the dealmaker” (a.k.a. #TheDealMkr).

And looking at her professional track record the moniker is fitting. Since 2015, she has renovated more than $20 Million dollars in real estate assets and manages a seven-plus figure portfolio. Just more than a year ago she made history when she partnered with a college buddy, also a 33-year-old African American woman, to acquire the Home2 Suites by Hilton El Reno, Oklahoma, located about 30 miles from Oklahoma City.

Their investment into the $8.3 million deal with fellow members of the Nassau Investments group is believed to have earned them the notable distinction of being the youngest African American woman to ever co-own a major hotel chain property. In December 2021 she worked with Nassau Investments and Jack Thomas of Jetway Financial, to acquire two more hotel properties; a Staybridge Suites in Fishers, Indiana, and a Hampton Inn & Suites in Scottsburg, Indiana.

BLACK DENTIST LAUNCHES MOBILE DENTAL SERVICES FOR CHILDREN IN THE MISSISSIPPI DELTA

Children who live in the Mississippi Delta can now experience state-of-the-art mobile dentistry provided by Dr. LaMonica Davis Taylor, a pediatric dentist with a private practice called Smiles on Broadway Dental Care located in the city of Jackson. Dr. Taylor has been providing dental services to children in the Delta since 2015. Currently, students in Boyle, Shelby, Mound Bayou, Cleveland, and Shaw are being seen by Dr. Taylor.

She and her team at Smiles on Broadway Dental Care travel to schools where they provide preventive and emergency dental care to children. All of the schools are in a health care shortage area.

Prior to purchasing the mobile clinic, Dr. Taylor and her team would carry portable equipment to each school. The mobile clinic will allow them to treat more students in a safe environment. The students have enjoyed having Dr. Taylor and her team visit their school. Many of the parents have followed through with the recommendations and have taken their children to local dentist where more comprehensive treatment can be performed.
