Those Touched by The Life of
Dr. Charles "Chuck" Singleton
GET MOVING For The Movie

Ancestor Dr. Charles L. Singleton, was a great inspiring and insightful person and contributor to our family of news blogs and many other causes.  He was a professional athlete, educational consultant, Purple Heart Awardee, creative and insightful writerprogressive authorFundraiser for Elizabeth City College and HBCU causes.  He was of course a mentor and inspirational presence for many people and organizations.

We are supporting a passionate group of Doraville natives embarking upon a compelling journey to create a documentary celebrating the rich tapestry of Doraville's history. As part of this endeavor, they are sponsoring a 5K race in honor of the late Chuck Singleton.

Jay Baker, one of the organizers, had this to share "Dr. Charles “Chuck” Singleton was not only a Purple Heart decorated war veteran and accomplished author, but also a pivotal figure in the civil rights movement.

As Student Council President at Elizabeth City State University, he played a crucial role in organizing a peaceful march following the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This event helped prevent the closure of several historically black colleges and universities, including his own alma mater.

To most of Doraville, however, he was known as “Mr. Singleton,” beloved educator at Northwoods Elementary, first African American teacher at the school, and three-time winner of the Teacher of the Year award."

The 5K race, held at the former General Motors location (now a major movie studio hub known as Assembly Atlanta) will take participants on a journey through both the old and new Doraville. It's not just a race; it's an opportunity to celebrate the remarkable history and vibrant future of our community, honoring the memory of a true local hero: Dr. Charles L. Singleton.

We have titled the even the Chuck Singleton "Get Moving for the Movie" 5k.  He was always telling us to "Get Moving". Jay Baker
