Ray Leonard Jr Is The Total Package: Entrepreneur, TV Star, Author, Motivational Speaker and Radio Host

Ray Leonard Jr needs little introduction.  He will forever be remembered appearing with his famous father, hall of famer boxer Sugar Ray Leonard in the 1970’s iconic 7 Up commercial capturing the hearts of millions.

Ray Leonard Jr, now all-grown up is a former two sport division one collegiate athlete and former sports agent for some of the biggest names in sports credits his work ethic to his parents. “They both supported, encouraged and ignited in me the desire to work hard,” Ray Leonard Jr said of his parents.

Ray is a husband and father of four wonderful children and believes “young people need a strong sense of their strengths, abilities, interests, and values,” he says.  He has dedicated his life to helping others through his commitment to being better every day.

AMERICAN POLICING: A CULTURE OF VIOLENCE IN MINORITY COMMUNITIES

Los Angeles, CA  According to a 2019, USA Today report, at least 85,000 law enforcement officers across the United States have been investigated or disciplined for misconduct over the past decade. Moreover, in minority communities throughout America there has been an urgent crisis in policing since the early 20th century. Presently, there is a perceived uptick in the media concerning improper police procedure and use of force, including killings of unarmed African American citizens like that of George Floyd in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Rayshard Brooks in Atlanta, Georgia. While no two cases are alike, there is a universal set of rules that governs when and how police officers should use force.

BLACK FATHER AND SON LAUNCH ONLINE SUMMER CAMP TO TEACH FINANCIAL LITERACY AND INVESTING

Nationwide  Kevon Chisolm, founder and president of Black Wallstreeter Consultation Services, is teaming up with his 13-year old son, Kamari, to launch an online summer camp that teaches African American teens how to invest. The camp is great for preventing learning loss and offers a fun environment for students to learn financial concepts while simultaneously learning about African American history.

Kevon comments, "In addition to topics like budgeting, banking, and investing in the stock market, our camp goes beyond others by exploring community wealth building through investment clubs."

The course, Junior WallStreeters: Empowering Youth with Financial Wellness, will teach students life-long financial education skills and discipline through 10 lessons with an emphasis on African American history and culture.

THREE EXPERTS ADDRESS BLACK COMMUNITY MENTAL HEALTH IN NEW HANDBOOK AND ONLINE DISCUSSION

Nationwide  The International Handbook of Black Community Mental Health brings together the work of researchers and practitioners from the UK, Europe, and the US to explore the personal, lived experiences of people of color in the mental health system. Crucially, contributors go on to not only outline and make policy recommendations but have developed practical exercises/activities and new technologies that can help to address the problems of both Black mental health professionals and service users.

MEET THE WOMEN RAISING FUNDS TO BUILD A BLACK-OWNED RESORT STYLE COMMUNITY IN GEORGIA

Nationwide  Meet Marlena Barnett and Shandrena Hadjamara, two African American real estate developers and investors, who are raising capital to build one of the Black-owned resort-style community in Summerville, Georgia. Their real estate project will be eco-friendly and will use solar energy as a primary source of power to preserve the environment.

Located right off of Hwy 337 about 90 miles north of Atlanta, the 128.6-acre community will be called Lakes of Summerville and it will be one of the first Black-woman owned real estate projects in the country to feature energy-efficient homes, vacation rentals, a clubhouse, fishing at natural lakes, bike trails, swimming pools, and a miniature golf course.

Nationwide  Leaf Me, a houseplant brand launched by founder Alexis Sims, is a Detroit-based online store that delivers tropical houseplants with health benefits directly to your home. The company also provides interior plant decor consultations to help clients pick the right plants for their light and humidity.

"At the start of my divorce, my mom gave me her arrowhead vine, my first plant. That plant is what got me through while taking care of a newborn and working full time. I'm excited to be on the other side of that storm and furthermore to be of service to others," says Alexis. "Also Black people especially have always had plants in their lives and homes. While this isn't new to us, we don't own enough of the market."

FOUNDER OF BLACK GIRLS INVEST VIRTUAL SUMMIT TO HELP CLOSE THE WEALTH GAP FOR AFRICAN AMERICAN GIRLS

Nationwide -- Expanding her wealth portfolio through the art of trading stocks is no new task for Cassandra Cummings, founder of The Stocks & Stilettos Society. She began working as a financial professional and investment adviser representative nearly 20 years ago, and she realized many of her clients did not look like her. During her observations, Cummings discovered that many African-American women were leading busy lives, earning advanced degrees, and climbing the corporate ladder; however, African-American women were not actively a part of the investment industry. Cassandra Cummings decided to create a safe space for women ready to learn more about the stock market and the art of investing.

Closing the Wealth Gap for African Americans

Wealth can be defined as the collective value of assets, earnings, retirement benefits, and real estate equity obtained by one person. The wealth gap continues to grow for African American women in relation to their counterparts. In 2007, African-American women had less than $10,000 in wealth while their counterparts recorded over $40,000 in assets. There is a cultural challenge for African American women and girls to decrease their debt, maintain their earnings, and increase their wealth. Participation in the stock market is one way to increase wealth among the African American community. According to a 2014 study by Credit Suisse and Brandeis University's Institute on Assets and Social Policy, inactivity in stock market trading is among one of the major reasons for lack of wealth for African American women.
