Dr. Thomas and Dr. Laverne Jackson’s Visionary Work at M.E.E.T. Ministry: Healing Through Faith

Dr. Thomas and Dr. Laverne Jackson

As people reflect on their health and wellness goals, it’s the perfect time to spotlight the transformative work of Dr. Thomas and Dr. Laverne Jackson, founders of M.E.E.T. Ministry (Missionary Education and Evangelistic Training). Nestled on 122 peaceful acres in Huntingdon, Tennessee, this 37-year-old faith-based health retreat has empowered thousands to reclaim their health through natural healing methods rooted in physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.

With their signature approach, G.O.D.S.P.L.A.N., the Jacksons have become trailblazers in faith-based natural health, offering hope and healing to countless lives.

The Birth of a Ministry

M.E.E.T. Ministry was born from a vision to merge faith and natural healing into a holistic program. Dr. Thomas Jackson’s personal journey played a pivotal role in this mission. “My journey began with a diagnosis of early-onset arthritis due to dietary factors, which derailed my aspirations to become an NBA athlete,” Dr. Jackson shared. “This challenge led me to discover the transformative power of natural remedies.”

Together with his wife, Dr. Laverne Jackson, the couple has built a globally recognized program that provides hope and healing to those battling life-threatening diseases. “Our nearly four decades of work are a testament to the power of faith, partnership, and purpose,” said Dr. Laverne Jackson.

Two Black Mompreneurs Collaborate, Launch New Thrive Culture Box For Black Children

Parents and other family members can now give children ages four and up the gift of learning and celebrating Black culture. Two Los Angeles-based moms, Dr. Anndretta and Stacy Kirk, who are leaders in cultural education and technology respectively, have teamed up to create Thrive Culture Box.

This innovative subscription service delivers a monthly activity box designed to help children and families explore Black culture and uplift communities together. Subscribers can expect a new box delivered each month, accompanied by instructional videos and lessons.

Stacy Kirk, co-creator of Thrive Culture Box, described the debut series focused on Black inventors: “This one is so thrilling — it’s all about Black inventors who shaped history. Each month, kids dive into a fun and interactive online course with physical tools and games that highlight groundbreaking Black inventors, from the genius behind the modern traffic light to pioneers in medicine and technology. Did you know a Black inventor perfected the recipe for ice cream?”

Dr. Anndretta shared her vision for the project: “We are not only teaching history — we are working with families to spark innovation and confidence in the next generation. As both a parent and an educator, I wanted children to have more than just videos and digital learning. With Thrive Culture Box, kids use their hands and exercise creativity with physical materials as well.”

Dr. Anndretta brings years of experience teaching Black Studies and Performance Studies at institutions including UCLA, USC, and CSU East Bay where she currently teaches and earned tenure last year. Across these campuses, a recurring question from her students was: “Why wasn’t I taught this sooner?” In response, she began developing solutions for young Black learners and their families.

Why Now Is The Time To Start A Sidehustle

Why Now Is The Time To Start A Sidehustle By Pierre Clark

The election is over. Trump is in office. And the challenges and issues we face in igniting wealth-building and wealth creation in our communities continue. What policies will the new administration contribute and support in terms of solutions to this age-old dilemma? We’ll have to see.

But for as long as we - the disinvested and under-resourced community residents - have been here we know that we have to continue to be the change we seek. And that is why there has been a surge in entrepreneurial development and side-hustle creation in our communities in the last five years.

Black Mom Raising Autistic Son Gets Diagnosed Herself With Autism Later in Life, Says the System Fails Black Women

Amina Phelps, an African American woman from Atlanta, Georgia, was raising her autistic 9-year-old son A.J. when she began to suspect that she herself may also be autistic. Sure enough, doctors diagnosed her with autism, even though she’s already in her 40’s. The shocking news and late diagnosis inspired her to write a book called Hidden in Plain Sight: A Journey of Autism, Motherhood, and Self-Discovery about how Black women with autism are often rendered invisible in conversations about neurodiversity, sidelined by systemic bias in research, resources, and public perception.

In her book, Amina courageously confronts this erasure while redefining what it means to thrive as a neurodivergent Black woman. Drawing from her lived experiences, she shines a light on the double-edged sword of being a Black woman with undiagnosed autism — a reality many women face due to the persistent white, male-centric lens of autism diagnosis and research. This deeply personal memoir is not just a call for representation but also an indictment of a system that routinely fails Black women and girls by misdiagnosing or overlooking their struggles altogether.

You Are Not Average:
Rising from the Depths of
Loss to the Heights of Love
By Dr. Marlyn S. Wright

Life is a journey filled with peaks and valleys, triumphs and trials.

Through my own experiences, I’ve learned that resilience isn’t just a word—it’s a way of life. It’s a mindset that allows us to rise above what life throws at us, reminding us that we are not average.

In 2016, my world shattered with the sudden loss of my eldest son. Just three years later, my heart broke again with the passing of my late husband.

These tragedies brought me to the brink of despair, plunging me into a battle with grief and depression.  As a pastor, I was called to uplift and lead others while secretly feeling as though I was drowning in my own pain.

New York Bound
“Bronzeville The Musical”
Set to Make
Historic Debut at
the legendary Apollo Theater

In a groundbreaking move, the Mahdi Theatre Company is set to unveil “Bronzeville The Musical,” a powerful homage to the historical significance of Chicago’s Bronzeville neighborhood, on November 16th and 17th at the legendary Apollo Theater in New York City. This marked debut promises to captivate audiences with its moving portrayal of resilience, culture, and community.

Bronzeville The Musical” chronicles the transformative journey of a father and his wayward teenage son as they navigate the complexities of their family’s heritage. This poignant production weaves together themes of redemption and the importance of legacy, while poignantly reflecting on the Great Migration — a period during which millions sought new lives in the North.

Through its rich narrative, the musical spotlights the vitality and artistry of Black history, showcasing the profound contributions of the Bronzeville community.

“This project was born from the urgent need to change the narrative surrounding urban Black youth,” said Producer and Director Margaret Mahdi. “Our artistic responsibility is to honor the legacy of those who came before us, especially in light of events like George Floyd’s tragic death and current migration challenges. ‘Bronzeville The Musical’ serves as a vital platform for ongoing discussions about identity and heritage.”
