THIS REAL ESTATE PROFESSIONAL WANTS TO HELP CLOSE THE WEALTH GAP HURTING BLACK PEOPLE

Oakland, CA --  Licensed realtor and young adult mentor Shaquanna Wilson has released a new book titled From Debt to Deeds Planner, which offers readers a cost-effective, easy-to-follow tool for creating a budget, fixing credit, and understanding the process of purchasing and paying off a home.

The book also reveals surprising racial disparities among racial groups in the US, with Black people seeing the lowest rate of homeownership since 1968. One of the primary reasons Black people are denied mortgages, Wilson says, is because of poor credit or lack of income. She says this also stems from a lack of education in Black communities.

Despite the challenges Black people still face in securing mortgage loans and investing in property, Wilson says there is a clear path ahead for those who are ready to read her message and hear her story.

TRACY LIGHTNER, GRANDDAUGHTER OF FORMER TEXAS SLAVE, ISAAC TOLAND, RELEASES ALBUM TO HONOR HIS LEGACY

Nationwide -- Those Who Matter is a compilation of soulful classical music that Tracy Lightner composed for her loved ones, and to honor the legacy of Isaac Toland - her great (3X) grandfather who was emancipated in 1865 and donated land for the first church, school, and cemetery for newly freed slaves near Houston, Texas.

This collection has dates as late as 1993 to as early as 2020. Her grandmother, Susie Burton, invested years of her earnings to pay for Tracy’s piano lessons. In the end, she would have her train with four instructors. Tracy started playing the piano for her church’s youth choir while in the 5th grade. She continued on while attending high school. Soon she performed in city-wide recitals as the closing act. She was a natural and music allowed her the self-expression needed during her teenage years.

Each song is lovingly composed with the thoughts of those nearest and dearest to her heart. She was spiritually compelled to leave this part of her talent and artistry as a legacy for her children. Tracy decided that the best delivery for her work would be a complete and honest recording. Each song was recorded in its purest form -she sat at her keyboard and used iPhone’s recording app. There was no remastering, no unnecessary mixing, no addition of altering frequencies or editing… just raw uncut music-filled. This method of recording and releasing of music provides for a true live experience that is heard throughout the album.

THIS 8-YEAR OLD CEO IS EMPOWERING BLACK GIRLS WITH HER LINE OF DOLLS, ACCESSORIES AND BOOKS

Atlanta, GA -- 8-year old Zoe Oli is on a mission to inspire self-love and confidence in young girls of color with her company, Beautiful Curly Me. She has created a line of Black dolls with curls and braids, hair care products, and authored two books, all within the past two years. Her company gives 10% back to girl empowerment organizations and is launching a Gift-A-Doll program this holiday season.

The Beginning

When Zoe was 6, she came home from school one day and asked Evana her mother, one question: “Mommy, why is my hair not pretty and straight like my classmates' hair?”

On a quest to empower her young daughter, Evana encouraged her daughter with words and actions by starting to wear her own natural hair and buying Zoe a Black doll.

This helped greatly, but Zoe was still not satisfied. She asked Mom why her black doll’s hair was wavy and did not have curly hair and braids like hers. Evana quickly found that those dolls did not exist in the stores and informed Zoe, who immediately chimed “I want to make them and start a business!”

Iconic Music Legend Jody Watley Makes Surprise TV Appearance on DJ Cassidy's "Pass The Mic: BET Soul Train Edition."

(Hollywood, CA - November 30, 2020) - Jody Watley is always full of surprises.

The Grammy-winning, trendsetting pioneer in music, video, fashion and style recently joined other R&B legends of the 80s on DJ Cassidy's "Pass the Mic: BET Soul Train Edition," which also featured Sheila E, Chaka Khan, El DeBarge, Deniece Williams, Morris Day, Evelyn "Champagne" King, Lisa Lisa, George Clinton, and many more. DJ Cassidy included an all-star surprise line-up for his set, including Jody Watley giving homage to she and her fellow musical legends who gave birth to some of the greatest dance records of all time. The 'highly anticipated,' DJ show premiered after the Soul Train Awards, and also aired on VH1 and MTV2 on Sunday, November 29.

Never one to disappoint, Jody Watley 'rocked the mic' and performed bars of "A Night to Remember," one of the many hit songs from her years during the pinnacle time for the group, Shalamar for the prime-time DJ television special.

Following her brief six year run in the group, Watley went on to become a celebrated solo artist, respected businesswoman, innovative music maker, and style-forging pioneer who has led the way as an entrepreneur working in the independent music world as one of the few already-established female best-selling artists to produce, create and own her recordings.

Some of her many classic hits include "Real Love," "Don't You Want Me," "Everything," and "Still A Thrill."

She is one of the architects of 21st-century pop. From her groundbreaking union of rap and R&B (1987’s “Friends,” a collaboration with hip-hop legends Eric B. & Rakim) to her vision-forward amalgamation of high fashion, street fashion and music in the 1980s (long before it became the norm), to her fusion of jazz and underground club culture with keen pop instincts, and the ease with which she crossed and still crosses genre, the iconic singer forged the template that is now everybody’s playbook.
