Rev. Dr. Georgia A. Hill and Diane Proctor Reeder Reveal the Powerful Connection Between Black Women and Women of the Bible
Authors Rev. Dr. Georgia A. Hill (left) and Diane Proctor Reeder (Right)

Rev. Dr. Georgia A. Hill and Diane Proctor Reeder, two African American authors from Detroit, Michigan are on a mission: to combine their faith, their Black-ness and their female-ness to tell a unique story that combines those three aspects of their lives.

Black women are everywhere: in the courtroom and the kitchen in churches, in classes teaching kids, in pulpits preaching sermons, in countries serving as missionaries, and in business as CEOs—and yet the next generations will not be able to read about them unless the books are written,” says Rev. Georgia.

Diane comments, “The amazing women of the Bible, we find, have stories just as compelling, just as dramatic, just as difficult, and just as deeply spiritual as the men. They are just largely unsung and underexplored.”

Combine these two groups of underappreciated, underrecognized women and you have their bookA Cloud of Women: The Powerful Connection Between Black Women and Women of the Bible (published in January 2024 by Our Daily Bread’s African American VOICES Collection).

Dr. Laura Borland Launches
New Platform To Support Dads
And Combat the
“Invisible Parent” Syndrome

Dr. Laura Borland, DSW, known as the “Dadvocate,” is excited to announce the launch of Dad-Ease, LLC, a Black-owned organization dedicated to addressing the pressing issue of the “Invisible Parent.” This concept highlights the societal tendency to overlook fathers in their parenting roles, often relegating them to a secondary status when it comes to caregiving and family involvement.

In a world where mothers are frequently viewed as the primary caregivers, many fathers find themselves marginalized in discussions about parenting, leading to an imbalanced family dynamic. The term “Invisible Parent” encapsulates this phenomenon, igniting a need for change in how society perceives and values fathers’ contributions.

“Every day, countless dads step into their parenting roles with love and dedication, yet they often remain unseen and unrecognized,” said Dr. Borland. “At Dad-Ease, we aim to bring visibility to fathers’ vital roles and advocate for the recognition they deserve.”

Riverside Hawks Class of 2030 Boys Basketball Team Take Home AAU National Championship Trophy – 2nd Year in a Row

Father and son lead the team to championship – coach Hector “Hec” Almodóvar and Amare Almodovar inspire with combination of team spirit and hard work

The young basketball team, class of 2030 from New York’s Riverside Hawks Program, has brought home the 2024 AAU National Championship Trophy in their division for the second year in a row. This group of 12-year-olds were an unstoppable winning force to contend with, thanks to Coach Hector Almodóvar, who made this, three in a row having won a previous championship with the class of 2031. His amazing coaching style, his son Amare’s skills on the court, and a team that operates like a tight-knit family unit made the win possible.

Coach “Hec”, as he is known to his young team members and Riverside staff, is a born and bred New Yorker who overcame significant hurdles in his youth, to become an inspirational figure to all who know him. He credits his son Amare’s persuasiveness with bringing him to the coaching staff at Riverside Hawks. “I was looking at coaching the Gauchos, but my son wanted to play on the Riverside Hawks team to be close to his friend,” he recalls.

Once a dominant young player in New York City’s youth basketball circuit, coach “Hec’s” total command and solid love of the game is exemplified in his no-nonsense approach to preparing and guiding his young players. In return he has built a strong sense of loyalty and deep affection among the members of this exquisite team, comprised of championship stock.
