THIS 7-YEAR OLD GIRL INSPIRED HER MOM TO CREATE A BLACK DOLL COLLECTION NOW RECOGNIZED BY OPRAH

Thanks to 7-year old Esi Orijin who inspired her mom to launch Orijin Bees' Baby Bee Doll Collection, the company had an amazing year in 2021. From being selected for Oprah's Favorite Things list, launching with Target, receiving the Mom's Choice Award, and being nominated as a finalist for the 2022 Toy of the Year Award, let's just say that it's clear that kids and their toy boxes have been waiting for Baby Bee Dolls!

Esi's mom, Melissa Orijin, comments, "Previously, without even a passing glance, one would notice that black dolls only had one type of curly hair texture and maybe just one skin tone. No matter how much I searched, I just couldn't find dolls that showed the vast diversity of Black and brown girls."

Melissa continues, "Through Orijin Bees, we want to provide dolls that are truly representative of Black and brown girls. Baby Bee Dolls are available in a variety of skin tones, hair colors, and curly hair textures (3c to 4c curl patterns). We ensure this because we know this collection teaches self-love and inclusion during play. We are striving to fill the gap by creating products representative of children that didn't feel included during play before Orijin Bees was born. Ultimately, our goal is to support the development of confident children that grow up to become the leaders of tomorrow."

HOST OF 'HOT MESS MILLIONAIRE' PODCAST LAUNCHES 2-DAY SUMMIT TO ADDRESS BLACK MEN AND MENTAL WELLNESS

Dr. Venus Opal Reese, who is known as the founder of the 'Black Women Millionaires Live' event series and 'Hot Mess Millionaire' podcast and TV show, is leveling up the image of Black men in America. This pioneer in relating to Black men, not as criminals, but as a mother's child or some father's boy, is future casting a tomorrow filled with Black and brown faces, who are standing tall in their humanness.

In an era where the average Black male has several incidents with the police before the age of 21, and where a Harvard study found Black Americans 3 times as likely to be shot by the boys in blue, Dr. Reese is shouting from the rooftops. The disparities and inequities have gone on since slavery, and now Dr. Reese exposes this systemic racism plaguing our African American men.

In her recent rendering "Healing with Him," Dr. Reese explains the open wounds that men of color carry, and she calls on women to help make a societal shift. These wounds are much like the scars our ancestors bore from the whipping post, but these are emotional.

BESTSELLING AUTHOR CHANGES THE NARRATIVE OF BLACK FATHERS IN NEW CHILDREN'S BOOK, "JUST LIKE YOUR DADDY"

Tiffany Parker, an author and a mother of three from Birmingham, Alabama, has released an innovative children’s book, Just Like Your Daddy, to shift the narrative of Black fathers.

Just Like Your Daddy is an expressive story filled with daily affirmations that are meant to uplift children of all ages. The book was designed to empower parents and celebrate the relationship of a Black father and son. Oftentimes, especially in the Black community, hearing the phrase “You’re just like your daddy,” is derogatory. “I wanted to take something that is typically negative and make it positive,” says Parker. Just Like Your Daddy encourages parents to celebrate that great Black dads do exist.

Parker came up with the idea for the book while searching for bedtime stories for her son. Since she couldn’t find many stories with characters that resembled her son, she decided to create one.

BLACK MOMPRENEUR AND HER 4 KIDS LAUNCH SUCCESSFUL GOURMET POPCORN BRAND

Meet Shaunese Alexander and her four childrenDestiny, Trinity, Serenity, and Joshua — the founders of Popcorn Munchies, one of the fastest-growing Black-owned gourmet popcorn brands in the country. Their Maryland-based company's most popular specialty is their caramelized pecan flavor.

How they started out

It all started when the kids, especially Joshua, realized that they loved eating popcorn while watching movies at home. Their mom eventually decided to purchase a popcorn machine so that they could make popcorn similar to how it's done in movie theaters. Shortly after, they were experimenting with recipes and landed on the best one, caramel. "It was so good," Shaunese says, "that we decided to share it with neighbors, friends, and family. They loved it so much that we began receiving more and more requests to make it."

When the pandemic began, the kids say they had no other choice but to stay home and be bored. But Shaunese did not let their valuable time go to waste. She encouraged them to perfect the craft, learn the entire process from start to finish, and start their very own gourmet popcorn business. Not long after, Popcorn Munchies was born!
