You Are Not Average:
Rising from the Depths of
Loss to the Heights of Love
By Dr. Marlyn S. Wright
Life is a journey filled with peaks and valleys, triumphs and trials.
Through my own experiences, I’ve learned that resilience isn’t just a word—it’s a way of life. It’s a mindset that allows us to rise above what life throws at us, reminding us that we are not average.
In 2016, my world shattered with the sudden loss of my eldest son. Just three years later, my heart broke again with the passing of my late husband.
These tragedies brought me to the brink of despair, plunging me into a battle with grief and depression. As a pastor, I was called to uplift and lead others while secretly feeling as though I was drowning in my own pain.

Yet, even in those darkest moments, I held on to the belief that purpose can emerge from pain. Through prayer, faith, and self-reflection, I realized that my story—filled with heartbreak, healing, and hope—was meant to inspire and uplift others.
Determined to create meaning out of my loss, I launched Journey to You, a mentorship program designed to help individuals discover their purpose, even in the face of adversity.
I also founded Winning Against All Odds, a nonprofit that supports people grappling with grief, while providing tools for personal development and leadership growth.
These initiatives are not just programs—they are lifelines for those struggling to move forward.
I want others to know that their struggles do not define them. Their courage to keep going does.
After being a widow for five years, I entered an unexpected season of joy.
On March 10, 2024, I married Bishop James Wright Jr., and together, we are blending our families and embracing the beauty of our unique long-distance marriage.
Our union is a testament to God’s grace, showing that love can be rediscovered even after immense loss.
Our journey isn’t conventional, but it’s ours. It works because we are committed to growing together, and we’re excited about what we call the “NEXT”—the new blessings, opportunities, and purposes that lie ahead.
Healing isn’t just about moving forward; it’s about going inward. This year, I hosted the Heal The Little Girl Within Women’s Conference in Atlanta and Miami, creating a space where women could confront their inner wounds and find restoration. Paired with my journal of the same name, these gatherings are helping women rewrite their stories and embrace healing on their terms.
Through my books, including A Queen Waiting On Her King, I continue to encourage women to prepare for the life they desire while leaning into faith and purpose.
As the Senior Pastor of Life Line Family Worship Center, I’ve had the honor of leading my congregation for nearly 22 years. Every sermon, program, and initiative is rooted in my belief that faith paired with action leads to victory. My life verse, Ecclesiastes 9:10, reminds me to put my all into everything I do because our work in this life matters.
Through my Facebook Live show, Motivation Moment with Marlyn, and my role as Dean at The School of The Great Commission Bible College, I aim to inspire and equip others to walk boldly in their purpose.
You Are Not Average
Each of us has the power to rise above the average, to refuse to let life’s trials define us. I’ve faced loss, heartbreak, and setbacks, but I’ve also found love, healing, and a renewed purpose.
My prayer for you is this: whatever challenges you face, remember that you are not average. You are extraordinary, chosen for a purpose, and equipped to win against all odds.
Let’s journey together.
