Illinois’ First African American Woman-Owned Champagne Brand Commits to Social Impact

As a former wedding planner, Samantha Danielle Dockery understood the importance of a sparkling wine’s flavor profile in appealing to diverse palates during wedding celebrations. She recognized the need for thoughtfully curated sets designed specifically for such occasions, complete with intuitive features like personalization. This passion for love and celebration inspired her to create a brand that honors the journey, rituals, hard work, and joys of your love story. In May 2023, after earning her certification as a Master of Champagne in 2021, she proudly launched LOVELUVV™, a sparkling wine brand dedicated to celebrating life’s most joyous moments.

With the launch of LOVELUVV™, Samantha pledged that 10% of all profits would support programs aiding individuals and families impacted by domestic abuse. This was not just a business decision; it was a heartfelt commitment born from her life experiences. Her ambition transformed the act of enjoying a glass of champagne into an act of solidarity and support for survivors of domestic violence.

WIT Academy Scholarship Program Helps Promising Black Students Excel in Technology

Wade Institute of Technology (WIT), an experiential Silicon Valley-based college for students of African descent pursuing careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields, announced that it is accepting applications for the 2025 Wade Scholarship Program (WSP).

To qualify for the scholarship, applicants must be admitted to a master’s degree program ranked within the U.S. News & World Report Top 30 U.S. graduate schools of engineering and/or the graduate engineering program of any of the Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

“There has been an alarming drop in the number of Black STEM professionals, who were already woefully underrepresented in these fields,” said WIT Executive Director Booker T. Wade, Jr. “This scholarship helps ease the financial burden that is often a contributing factor to the drop-off of Black students in the educational pipeline. We are committed to the goal of promoting increased diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM through expanded educational opportunities.”

In The Current MAGA
Political Climate...
Left: UN Activist Barbara Horne| Right: Publisher Kamau Austin

Barbara Horne intuitively springs forth from a family of people interested in maintaining community.  She was surrounded by loved ones who had the caring insight to foster a better neighborhood and social climate growing up.

Creatively, Ms. Horne has synergistically mixed her passions for Black empowerment, Women's UPliftment, technology aplomb, and business engagement from a lens of human rights.  Barbara's passion and skills has landed her in a myriad of activist programs and activities with the United Nations.

Given the national crisis the country is in with regards to any semblance of a democracy surviving in the United States, I compelled my BBFF (Bernie Best Friend Forever) to talk to me about if the UN had any influence or plans to help Black Americans, people of color, and marginalized people in the US.  My exclusive video interview follows below.

How DEI Saves Black Lives

Diverse Medical Research Helps
Blacks Get Better Health Outcomes

Left: Divergent CRO Co-Founder Shawn Williams | Right Publisher Kamau Austin

Diversity and DEI have recently come under fire from both sides of the political spectrum. But in this episode of The Black News Scoop, we explore how diversity in medical research is not just a talking point—it’s a matter of life and death for Black communities and people of color.

It’s been widely reported across news outlets and social media that health outcomes for Black people and other communities of color consistently lag behind those of mainstream society—even when income and access are equal.

One major reason? Black and Brown people are significantly underrepresented in clinical trials and other medical research.

That’s where Divergent CRO comes in. This innovative, Black-owned company is working to close that gap by making medical research more diverse, equitable, and inclusive.

In this exclusive interview, we speak with Ms. Shawn Williams, founder of Divergent CRO, about her mission to change the face of clinical research and improve health outcomes for underrepresented communities. The company is currently welcoming inquiries and open to collaboration opportunities with biotech and medical device companies that are serious about inclusive research.
