Black News Scoop Question: Jokia, "Rise" has become a powerful anthem for many. Can you share the inspiration behind this song and what it means to you personally?
Jokia: "Rise" is deeply personal and represents a journey through my own struggles and triumphs. The song was inspired by the various obstacles I've faced and the strength I've found within to overcome them.
It’s about rising above life’s challenges, and I wanted to create something that would inspire others who are going through difficult times. Personally, it’s a reminder of my own resilience and the power of never giving up.

Jokia: When the filmmakers approached me about including "Rise" in their projects, I was thrilled. Both films have powerful messages that align perfectly with the theme of the song.
It’s an incredible feeling to see my music being a part of these stories and to have it reach a wider audience through such impactful projects. It’s a testament to how music can enhance storytelling and connect with people on a deeper level.

Jokia: This pregnancy is a dream come true, especially after the heartache of fertility treatments and a miscarriage. It has profoundly influenced my music, bringing a new layer of depth and emotion to my work.
This journey has strengthened my belief in hope and perseverance, and I hope my experiences can offer encouragement and inspiration to others facing similar challenges.

Jokia: My time in the Army taught me invaluable lessons in discipline, resilience, and dedication. These lessons have been essential in navigating the music industry’s challenges.
The experience has given me a strong work ethic and the ability to push through tough times, which has been crucial in my music career. I approach my work with the same determination and focus I learned during my service.

Black News Scoop: You’re performing at Majic Under The Stars in Houston this October with Boyz II Men, Robin Thicke, and 112. What can fans expect from your performance?
Jokia: I’m incredibly excited for this event. Fans can expect a high-energy, heartfelt performance as I bring my passion and dedication to the stage. I’ll be performing some of my favorite songs, including "Rise," and I’m looking forward to sharing the stage with such legendary artists. It’s going to be an unforgettable night of music and celebration.
Black News Scoop: You’re also making your acting debut in The Heathen. What drew you to this project, and how has the experience been for you so far?
Jokia: Acting has always been a passion of mine, and The Heathen presented a fantastic opportunity to explore this new creative outlet. The role I’m playing has been challenging but rewarding, and it’s allowed me to express myself in new ways. The experience has been both exciting and enlightening, and I’m eager to see how audiences will respond to my performance.
Black News Scoop: Looking ahead, what are your hopes and goals for the future—both personally and professionally?
Jokia: Personally, I’m thrilled about the journey ahead with my pregnancy and excited for this new chapter in my life. Professionally, I want to continue making music that resonates with people and explore more opportunities in acting. My goal is to keep growing as an artist and continue to inspire others through my work and my story.
