See Photo Captions Below. “If we do not write, teach and share our history, we will soon be forgotten.” Charles L. Singleton. Yes, during John’s life, especially while driving his long-distance big truck, he often reflected upon slavery.
Christina Perry Mitchell (1845-1955), John Thompson’s Great-Great-Great Grandmother, was born into slavery and her “slave master pierced her ear with the markings of his ownership.” The piercing of a slave’s ear, when he or she refused to go free, instead stayed in her slave master’s house, was a common acceptance of bondage and servitude. Christina Perry Mitchell was the mother of her slave master’s 8 children.
Early enslavement of Africans in South Carolina existed for 339 years (1526-1865), according to SCIWAY Publications. Note, slavery in the United States of America covered a period of 246 years (1619-1865), and Juneteenth (1619 - June 19, 1865). According to many historical references, Union General Gordon Granger and thousands of federal troops arrived on Monday, June 19, 1865, in Galveston, Texas to inform Texans that the Civil War (April 12, 1861- May 09, 1865) had ended, and slaves in the U. S. A. had been freed. Mrs. Christina was the mother of 8 children: More Information to Come.

John drove Big Trucks with chemical-clean tanks, medical tanks, and food graded-tanks for 43 successful years of working in transportation (1966-2009).
