MEET THE FIVE STATE LAWMAKERS LEADING THE CHARGE FOR THE NEXT ROUND OF MASS INCARCERATION

Atlanta, GA -- Activists in Georgia say a new bill being proposed by five state lawmakers will lead to the mass incarceration of children as young as 13. It's known as the Gang Bill (House Bill 994), and it was sponsored by State Representatives Bert Reeves, Barry Fleming, Chuck Efstration, Andy Welch, and Ginny Ehrhart.

The bill comes on the heels of Georgia making substantial changes to reform the criminal justice system. By the end of former Governor Nathan Deal's final term, the State had created an accountability court, reduced mandatory minimum sentences, allowed prosecutors to choose diversion programs, and reduced certain nonviolent felonies to misdemeanor offenses.

Nationwide -- Children's books with Black representation are now easier to find thanks to author and serial entrepreneur Veronica N. Chapman, founder of BlackBabyBooks.com.

A children's book author herself, Chapman launched the web site in response to the challenges shared by attendees at her book signings. She comments, "When I published my first children's book, people would often tell me that they had trouble finding children's books with Black characters.

Early literacy is so important, as is representation in the books our children read, so I spent a weekend designing BlackBabyBooks.com."

AUTHOR RELEASES NEW BOOK ABOUT HOW DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AFFECTS CHILDREN

Phoenix, AZ -- Author and advocate, Tiffany Mensah has written and released her first book titled, Forgotten: Living in the Shadows of Domestic Violence. It is estimated that globally one billion children are growing up in homes plagued by domestic violence, however to date, awareness of the childhood trauma caused by such sits around 15%.

Why when the numbers are so high, and with so many children at stake are there not more conversations?

Considering how they carry such an emotional burden alongside victims, it seems that these children are oft times forgotten and their stories of survival and resilience are buried deep into the walls of childhood homes and places of abandonment.

The Bill will require these entities to contribute to a fund that will provide benefits to families and descendants of enslaved Americans. The benefits and programs for descendants are at no cost to the government or taxpayers, because funding is provided by major U.S and international corporations and organizations.

Cheeks comments, "This is a solution for known injuries, not taxpayer sponsored lawsuits, that will divide or keep divided the country. Funds will help descendants of enslaved Americans, many of whom live in poor, underserved, and high crime areas in the United States.
