In this Black News Scoop exclusive interview, she discusses artistry, achievement, and staying true to her musical vision.
Black News Scoop: Congratulations on having “My Favorite Things” and “Afrika” become the most streamed tracks on Smooth Jazz Global’s Top 100 Global Charts. What does this milestone mean to you?
Mariea Antoinette: Thank you so much. I am deeply humbled by this remarkable achievement. To see my music embraced globally and recognized as the most streamed on Smooth Jazz Global’s Top 100 Charts is truly an honor. It’s incredibly rewarding to know that listeners around the world are connecting with the music.
I pour my heart into every performance and recording, so this recognition means more than I can fully express.
Black News Scoop: You’ve built a career as one of today’s most respected jazz harpists. How did this journey begin?
Mariea Antoinette: My journey has truly been a combination of passion, discipline, and an unwavering love for music. I began playing the harp at a young age and discovered its versatility over time. While many associate the harp with classical music, I saw its potential in jazz, R&B, and contemporary genres. Being able to take the harp beyond traditional settings has been incredibly rewarding, and I’m grateful that audiences connect with that vision.
Black News Scoop: The harp isn’t traditionally associated with smooth jazz or contemporary grooves. How have you reimagined the instrument?
Mariea Antoinette: I see the harp as a storytelling instrument. It has classical roots, but it’s incredibly adaptable. In jazz, I focus on rhythm, groove, and emotion. I want the harp to sing, swing, and connect with listeners in a way that feels modern while still honoring its tradition. It’s about finding the right balance between technical mastery and heartfelt expression.
Black News Scoop: You’re preparing for SeaBreeze Jazz Festival 2026. What does this performance mean to you?
Mariea Antoinette: It’s an honor to perform at SeaBreeze Jazz Festival 2026. The lineup is phenomenal, and the energy surrounding the event is incredible. Performing in Panama City Beach from April 23–26 and taking the stage on April 25 makes it even more special because of the beautiful setting and vibrant audience.
Black News Scoop: You’ll be performing with Jazz in Pink. What makes that collaboration special?
Mariea Antoinette: Performing with Jazz in Pink is inspiring. Each woman in the group brings her unique voice and talent, and there’s a real sense of collaboration and sisterhood. We support and uplift one another on and off the stage. It’s about celebrating women in contemporary jazz and showing what’s possible when we create together.
Black News Scoop: What can fans expect from your April 25 performance?
Mariea Antoinette: Fans can expect something energetic, soulful, and uplifting. I’ll be bringing the harp into the mix in ways that may surprise and delight them. There will be smooth jazz vibes, contemporary grooves, and heartfelt storytelling. Most importantly, it will be a celebration of music, connection, and joy.
Black News Wrap Up: With chart-topping success, soulful artistry, and a fearless approach to innovation, Mariea Antoinette continues to expand the role of the harp in contemporary jazz. As her music resonates globally — and as she prepares for her appearance at SeaBreeze Jazz Festival 2026 — her artistry remains both timeless and forward-thinking.
