Publisher Kamau Austin (left) Interviews Author Khefa Nosakhere (Right)

Kamau: What inspired you to go into education and literature?

Khefa's Answer: I always loved the written and spoken word. It’s always been my passion to express myself at an extremely high level. Also, women love poetry!

Kamau: Why did you decide to write about Richard Wright from the angle of masculinity?

Khefa's Answer: It’s my masters thesis “on steroids” LOL. That’s why the title is so lengthy. Additionally, I am a strong believer that Richard Wright doesn’t get the respect he is rightfully due. His work was much, much more than Native Son.

Kamau: How does Richard Wright's characters apply to the challenges of Black men today?

Khefa's Answer: Fred Daniels reminded me of Freddie Gray. There are millions of Bigger Thomases who are still trapped in the urban jungles of America. Sadly, Wright’s work is just as relevant today as it was in the 1940’s.

Kamau: Yes we see similar racist things recently within these tense challenging times surrounding the shooting of
Ahmaud Arbery and racial profiling of Dr. Armen Henderson.

Can you tell us about some of the challenges you've had to overcome as a Black man in the US and how did you over come them?

Khefa's Answer:  I am the oldest of four from a single female headed household. I practically raised my three younger siblings. I credit a solid education and teachers who really inspired me as my main strategy to overcoming.

Kamau: Can you tell us about some of your upcoming book ideas in the future as an author?

Khefa's Answer:  "Charmed, I’m Sure: The Black Males Guide To Success In AmeriKKKa," will be released in the Spring of 2021. Its part self help/ memoir. It is directed at Black males being raised in single female headed households.

Kamau:  When you're not writing and reading what do you like to do to enjoy yourself?

Khefa's Answer:  I am an expert on the Marvel Universe! I still collect comic books. Thor is my favorite “super hero”. Classic TV and old movies fascinate me.

Charter member of The Who Dat ?!? Nation (Go Saints!!! - my hometown) as well as a big supporter of my alma mater, USC Fight On!! I have a healthy addiction to king crab legs.

Kamau: What is the best way to contact you?
