From Johnny Britt
Johnny Britt's journey in music is one of inspiration and achievement. From serving as the youngest-ever musical director for The Temptations to founding the Motown/MoJazz group Impromp2, Britt has consistently captivated audiences worldwide with his unique blend of vocal prowess, musicianship, and storytelling.
His latest musical triumph, a smooth jazz rendition of the 1964 classic “Walk On By,” has further solidified his status as an influential artist. Britt's version of the song quickly rose on the charts, becoming the most added single and top gainer at radio stations across the country, including SiriusXM Watercolors.
Speaking on the honor, Britt shared his heartfelt gratitude:"I am deeply honored to receive this award from Cathedral Latin School. My time there laid the foundation for my journey in music, and it’s incredibly special to be recognized by the community that helped shape who I am today. I hope my story inspires current and future students to pursue their dreams with passion and dedication."
Britt's latest single, “Walk On By,” was a collaborative family affair, with his son Josh Britt mixing the track. Johnny Britt performed on keyboards, bass, and muted trumpet, with Marcus Williams playing drums.
The accompanying music video, filmed in the romantic streets of Paris, where Britt once studied music, beautifully reflects the song's essence. This year, “Walk On By” marks Britt's third radio single from his album After We Play to be added to SiriusXM Watercolors—a testament to his enduring impact on the jazz and soul music scene. Britt's passion and dedication have even led to his submission of the song for Grammy consideration this year.
The 72nd Annual Communion Breakfast commenced with a Mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Noel Church, followed by a celebratory brunch and award ceremony at the church's banquet center.
The event also recognized the 50th anniversary of the Cathedral Latin School Class of 1974.
