CENTER FOR VETERANS IN
PG COUNTY, MARYLAND
Dr. Arthur Darby III seeks to revolutionize veterans’ access to resources in Prince George’s County by offering a five-tiered approach to self-sufficiency services.
Unity In The Community Non-Profit, Inc., a regional leader in Veteran housing, announces the grand opening of its groundbreaking full-service center, specifically dedicated to serving the needs of Veterans. The initiative marks the first in Prince George’s County and one of the first in the DMV region.
The new center is designed with an intuitive understanding of the unique challenges and needs the Veterans face. The center will maintain the organization’s focus on eradicating Veteran homelessness through housing by offering an array of services.
The Unity Center for Veterans will take a five-tiered approach, providing the following services to Veterans: workforce development, transition services, trauma-informed therapy, financial literacy, and services aimed at helping them rebuild ties with family and community. The center aims to be a haven where Veterans can access necessary resources and support to improve their quality of life and regain their independence.

“Our mission at Unity In The Community has always been to create a pathway to self-sufficiency for Veterans,” said Dr. Arthur Darby, III, Founder & CEO of Unity In The Community Non-Profit. “As a Veteran myself, I understand firsthand how difficult it can be to reenter civilian life, and if not for my family and community, I would not have been able to reintegrate into society with the proper tools needed to survive. I created this center with the intent of establishing more than a transition home, but a community of hope through wraparound in-house veteran resources.”
Unity Center for Veterans will directly address the needs of Veterans by incorporating a multi-directional and multi-faceted model. The model is designed to support veterans at every stage of their transition, whether they are experiencing homelessness and need transitional housing or require housing counseling to become homeowners.
The Unity Center for Veterans, will house 14 Veterans while servicing over 150 annually. All Veteran services will be offered free of charge. Housed Veterans will only pay a small monthly program fee to prepare them for independent living.
“With this first-of-its-kind center here in Prince George’s County, we are taking a significant step toward reinforcing our commitment to serving the Veteran community. In addition to housing, we are creating another avenue and pathway for reentry to civilian life.”
Veteran Affairs Offices in Prince George’s County and Washington, D.C. have already begun sending Veteran referrals for housing and services. Additionally, Veterans are encouraged to apply directly by contacting Unity In The Community, Inc.
The Unity Center for Veterans grand opening will occur on Friday, January 12, 2024, at noon (6901 Livingston Road, Oxon Hill, Md. 20745). It will feature a tour of the facility, an introduction to the services offered, and a chance to meet the dedicated team behind this initiative. Unity In The Community invites community members, local leaders, and the press to join this milestone event.
