Let This Be A Season Of New Beginnings

CAPE TOWN; South Africa -- As we celebrate the Festive Season, it is worthwhile to reach out and make a positive impact on those in need; and especially in underserved communities.

In the Great Spirit of Christmas, we can make a positive difference by sharing and giving of our time and talents to add value into the lives of others.

Let this be a Festive Period which you will look back on one day and say this was the turn around point for your life.

This was the time you found your mojo. This is when you came of age. This is when you reconnect with your ancestors, angels, God, human society and the universe.

I know that God doesn't like it when we start things and not finish them.

May this be the Season that you commit and strive to finish any unfinished business, work, project or whatever it is you need to finish.

May this be the Season of New Hope and Renewed Love in action as we seek to think, say and act in a just and human conduct at all times.

When we forgive ourselves and forgive others, we are in the perfect space to be forgiven for our shortcomings and wrongs.

Nicole Linton, CEO of Nicobi Cares and Co-Founder of Nicobi Foods, is celebrating 20 years of committed community service, mentorship, and steady leadership. Black Author Releases New Book About Dismantling White Supremacy During the Post-Civil War Reconstruction Era

J. Darnell Johnson, the 2025 Black Authors Matter Award winner in the Young Adult category, has released a new book titled Dark Country, a powerful story about dismantling white supremacy during the Post–Civil War Reconstruction Era.

In the story, Blaze Vaughn and his partner, Shaman Stroud, are Super-Secret Service agents of the U.S. government. Led by the renowned and concealed abolitionist Frederick Douglass, they traverse the tumultuous South aboard their private train, Destiny, as the Liberators. Their mission is to fight against injustice toward Negroes and dismantle white supremacy during the post-Civil War Reconstruction era of the mid-1860s and 70s.

Two Former Black School Principals Release New Book to Inspire Black Children From Classroom to Consciousness

 Dr. Sheka Houston, formerly the principal of a middle school, and Dr. Tammy Taylor, formerly the principal of an elementary school, have partnered to release Amir’s Awakening: His Amazing Journey to Ancient Egypt – From Classroom to Consciousness, a new book that is the first in the Resilience Series of five books that aims to inspire Black children. Based in South Carolina, both women have more than 25 years of experience in education.

At a time when African American history is being threatened, and critical books are being banned, these two trailblazing Black educreators are flipping the narrative with their transformational children’s book series and activity guides. The vividly illustrated story boldly empowers students by introducing – or reconnecting – them to their cultural roots and intellectual legacy, offering parents, teachers, mentors, and administrators an accessible and exciting solution for engaging Black students in school.

Shawna moses Transforms Personal Hair Trauma into Natural Hair Care Innovation

A severe relaxer burn that once left Shawna Moses in pain has now become the catalyst for a thriving natural hair care brand. As a medical laboratory scientist and the founder of Kinky Tresses, she turned her personal hair trauma into purpose by developing a line of natural, science-backed formulations designed specifically for textured and curly hair. What began as a painful injury has now become the foundation of a brand created to help women embrace their curls safely and confidently.

The Cost of Perfection Politics: Why Attacking Jasmine Crockett Misses the Moment

In the wake of U.S. Representative Jasmine Crockett’s announcement that she is running for U.S. Senate in Texas, a familiar political ritual has resurfaced. From the right and so-called “moderates,” we hear that she is too outspoken, too sharp, too unwilling to play to the center—and therefore “can’t win” in red Texas. From some on the left, particularly progressive influencers, she is criticized for not going far enough or loudly enough in condemning Israel’s actions in Gaza.

This pile-on feels eerily familiar—and dangerously short-sighted.

We heard the same arguments about Kamala Harris. Progressives tore her apart for not being perfect, particularly on foreign policy and Israel, while moderates insisted she needed to soften herself to appeal to the center. And what did that strategy deliver? Donald Trump—and a world where conditions for Palestinians worsened, immigrants were terrorized, voting rights were attacked, and Black and brown communities were further marginalized.

The truth is uncomfortable but necessary: perfection politics helped usher in outcomes far worse for the very people critics claim to defend.

What is happening now with Jasmine Crockett is a replay of that same destructive cycle. The demand for an ideologically flawless candidate—one who passes every purity test while also magically winning over MAGA voters—ignores political reality and actively undermines democracy, particularly in states like Texas where anti-democratic forces are already working overtime to suppress votes and rig outcomes.

As a two-time cancer survivor, I don’t have the luxury of treating politics as a theoretical exercise. I am already feeling the consequences of reactionary governance: cuts to food assistance, threats to health care, and rising monthly costs that put basic survival at risk. These are not abstract debates for millions of working people—they are life-and-death issues. We cannot afford to “burn down” imperfect allies while waiting for a savior who checks every ideological box.

Platform Helps Black, Haitian and Other Immigrant Salon Owners Earn Revenue Helping Their Customers Learn English

The owners of a minority-owned company called TutorABC Global Talent, has launched a new initiative to help Black, Haitian, and other immigrant hair and nail salon owners to create extra income by offering their clients the opportunity to learn English. The program, which is an officially licensed Oxford and Cambridge curriculum, is designed to enhance communication with immigrant business owners and their customers, and many of the participants are learning to speak English within months.

When Miami salon owner Keisha Brown first heard she could help her clients learn English and earn money at the same time, all from her phone, she was curious but skeptical. Then she clicked.
