AUTHOR RELEASES NEW BOOK ABOUT HOW DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AFFECTS CHILDREN

Phoenix, AZ -- Author and advocate, Tiffany Mensah has written and released her first book titled, Forgotten: Living in the Shadows of Domestic Violence. It is estimated that globally one billion children are growing up in homes plagued by domestic violence, however to date, awareness of the childhood trauma caused by such sits around 15%.

Why when the numbers are so high, and with so many children at stake are there not more conversations?

Considering how they carry such an emotional burden alongside victims, it seems that these children are oft times forgotten and their stories of survival and resilience are buried deep into the walls of childhood homes and places of abandonment.

USCRIA FOUNDER PROPOSES NEW LAW TO BENEFIT DESCENDANTS OF ENSLAVED AFRICAN AMERICANS

John Cheeks, founder and director of the United States Citizens Recovery Initiative Alliance (USCRIA)

Nationwide -- On February 21, 2020, John Cheeks submitted the first proposed law to the District of Columbia Board of Elections that is a model bill for businesses, faith-based institutions, industries and governments that participated in or benefited from slavery to redress past maltreatment and exploitation.

The Bill will require these entities to contribute to a fund that will provide benefits to families and descendants of enslaved Americans. The benefits and programs for descendants are at no cost to the government or taxpayers, because funding is provided by major U.S and international corporations and organizations.

Cheeks comments, "This is a solution for known injuries, not taxpayer sponsored lawsuits, that will divide or keep divided the country. Funds will help descendants of enslaved Americans, many of whom live in poor, underserved, and high crime areas in the United States.

Meet The Newest Celebrity Breakout Star Sandra Batiste, Known As "Chef Sandra" Launches the Bayou Scratch Kitchen in Las Vegas

The Creator of Southern Cajun Caribbean and San Franciscan Fusion Cuisine Sandra Batiste

When it comes to cooking Creole and Cajun cuisine, Sandra Batiste is shaking up the culinary world.

The celebrity chef, born and raised in the San Francisco Bay area who previously exhibited her superb culinary skills with her partner, Chef Che Gravy Gaines of the “San Che Remix,” put a twist on every dish that they create.

Along with her cooking partner, Che, Batiste is launching her new restaurant the Bayou Scratch Kitchen at the Gramercy in Las Vegas in May, and she couldn’t be more excited.

“The Bayou Scratch Kitchen is a mixture of Cajun and Caribbean cooking with a San Francisco influence and a bit of southern flair,” she said. “Everything about our food is delicious, colorful, and bright.

I always try to put my signature on every dish that I create and I think anyone who eats our cuisine will be placed in a food coma--like a trance,” she laughed.

BLACK-OWNED FINANCIAL TECH FIRM  RAISES $3.5 MILLION SEED ROUND AS THEY ADVANCE EFFORTS TO ADDRESS THE RACIAL WEALTH GAP

Newark, NJ -- Mobility Capital Finance (MoCaFi), a financial technology company that is committed to bringing financially underserved communities in the United States into the digital banking economy, has closed $3.5 million in a Series Seed funding round. Wole Coaxum, founder of the company, is an African American former Wall Street and insurance industry executive.

The Series Seed round was led by Radicle Impact Partners with other institutional investors including Newark Venture Partners (NVP), Partnership Fund for New York City, Social Venture Circle of Philadelphia, SustainVC, WinWin, Portfolia, and Capital Access Holdings. Several family offices participated as well. Winston & Strawn served as Company counsel.

"MoCaFi delivers high quality, appropriately priced products and services to communities across the country," said Coaxum. "Financially vulnerable people, especially communities of color deserve the opportunity to bank smart and build their credit.

The funding that we have received will be utilized to focus on expanding opportunities for traditionally underserved communities, bringing more people into the financial mainstream – lowering their cost to borrow, increasing their access to quality products and services, and providing a resource in the journey of creating wealth."

Nerine Dixon Sings A Life Of Music With A Compassionate Rhythm Of Support And Sacrificial Love To Others

New Jersey -- Nerine Dixon, is a native of the Bronx, and proud ancestry from Jamaica, West Indies.  She learned early on music and singing in church is her passion.

She eventually would study music, sing in exceptional church choirs, and study both opera and spiritual music.  Nerine went on to study music at a leading HBCU, South Carolina State University, then attended Mannes School of Music, and later earn her Masters Degree in Music.

Dixon would later become the choir director of the well regarded mega-Church CCC in Brooklyn, now New York City's largest congregation, and teach at the Boys Choir Of Harlem.  However, beyond her passion for music and serving in worship services in New Jersey, Nerine has a passion to help people.

Written in his obituary: “Clement Jr. served during the Vietnam War as a Sergeant in the US Army’s 1st Infantry Division, Black Lions Battalion (1965). Upon completion of active duty, he started a 37-year career (1966 – 2003) with MeadWestvaco Corporation, Charleston, SC. Clement was the first African American to integrate then 'West Virginia Pulp and Paper’s' Maintenance Department. Clement rose to the level of Journeyman 5, the highest skilled grade level within his department. He served a term as the Machinist Union Shop Steward. May his amazing extraordinary occupational skills; Masonic blessings and Christian faith continue to live on in all of us.”

ZETA PHI BETA SORORITY, INCORPORATED MARKS CENTENNIAL WEEK WITH COMMEMORATION, CELEBRATION AND COMMUNITY SERVICE

Last week, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, the esteemed African American women's service organization celebrated its Centennial with celebrity guest speakers, a fashion show, community service project at Martha's Table, an Empowerment Summit, and a Black Tie Gala.

Washington, DC (BlackNews.com) -- Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated, reached its 100th year of service on Thursday, January 16, 2020. Seven years of planning came to fruition for one of the country's largest African American women's organizations.

Valerie Hollingsworth Baker, Zeta's International Centennial President, kicked off the week with a design collaboration with St. John's exclusive line of Zeta-inspired apparel. Other activities throughout the week featured:
