Iconic Singer and HUGE Sports Fan Jody Watley Delivers Flawless National Anthem Performance at MLB and NFL Games!

Jody Watley, the iconic singer and aficionado sports fan, also affectionately named as the ‘Queen of Cool’ by her fans has not only been sighted at professional sporting events, but she’s been giving sports enthusiasts a 'real treat' with her flawless performance of the national anthem at the MLB and NFL games in Los Angeles.

The Grammy award-winning trendsetting pioneer in music, video, fashion and style ageless beauty sang the national anthem at Dodgers Stadium - Los Angeles Dodgers vs New York Mets (8/21/21) and Los Angeles Chargers vs. New England Patriots- Sofi Stadium (10/31/21).

And, she did not disappoint! Watley wowed the sports crowd which followed with the innovative music maker singer receiving a standing ovation from attendees at both games!

MOMPRENEUR AND HER DAUGHTER TEAM UP, LAUNCH BLACK-THEMED BACKPACKS, HANDBAGS, ETC TO INSPIRE PEOPLE OF COLOR

Chrishonda Benson from Charlotte, North Carolina wanted to show her daughter that her brown skin and bold features were beautiful, so she used the representation gap in the retail industry to create Pretty Dope Society, an extensive collection of products that incorporates the illustrations of Black artists.

Since October 2020, her brand has set out to breathe life into Black art because representation matters and has since sold thousands of items that fill the representation gap and bring smiles and dialogue to customers. From diaper bags, travel bags, blankets, drinkware, and more, this holiday season, buy items that are more than just material objects; but ignite the everlasting culture and creativity that is Black art.

For this e-commerce brand, being able to present the black community with products that are intentionally both visually and emotionally means everything. “I wanted Black children and adults everywhere to understand that they are beautiful and they deserve to be represented in items that they see and use every day,” says Chrishonda.

6-YEAR OLD AUTHOR REVEALS MEMORY TRICK TO HELP CHILDREN LEARN AND REVIEW THE ALPHABET IN A FUN WAY

Six-year-old Corban Stephenson has written a new book entitled Alexander’s Hide and Seek Alphabet. While there are many alphabet books out there, this book has a different spin.

Corban’s book uses a fun learning technique called the “Loci Method” to help kids, ages 4-6, learn and review the alphabet. The method is a memory tool that connects the information kids want to remember with places they know well.

Learning the alphabet is one of the first literacy concepts children learn. It is the foundation for developing language and communication. Corban’s book presents the alphabet in an entertaining and playful manner.

Corban, who learned the alphabet when he was just 1-year old, wanted to write a book to help his younger brother and other kids learn the letters. While working on his book during the school year, he took the lead in critiquing the illustrations, approving the cover, and telling others about the book.

$40K IN GRANTS TO BE DONATED TO K-12 PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND BLACK & BROWN COMMUNITY CHANGEMAKERS ACROSS THE NATION

BeGreat Together, the philanthropic arm of online educational platform Assemble, announced it will launch Fall 2021, awarding up to $10,000 to two local public school programs and $20,000 to a local community changemaker, along with the logistical support and awareness necessary to create lasting positive change in disenfranchised Black and Brown communities.

School districts with more than 50 percent Black and/or Latinx students face a funding gap of more than $5,000 per pupil on average, according to The Century Foundation. The net assets of Black and Latino-led groups are 76% smaller than white-led organizations. BeGreat Together aims to bridge that gap and put resources in the hands of public schools and grassroots community changemakers who know best what their students and communities need.

BeGreat Together is calling upon Kansas City public schools to nominate an envisioned or existing service, initiative, or program that supports the educational environment or experience for students, to receive up to $10,000. BeGreat is also calling upon residents to nominate themselves or another local changemaker to be the recipient of a $20,000 grant.

FIRST TIME AUTHOR DR. SHAWANDA MOORE HONORS MURDERED SON WHO WAS HER FORMER BUSINESS PARTNER AND SELLS OUT OF HER BOOKS IN A FEW DAYS

 

Dr. Shawanda S. Moore, also known as The Tax Doctor, is the CEO and founder of Royal Financial Services and Royal Tax Box. She decided to write her first book entitled Introduction to Tax Preparation to assist individuals with starting their own tax business, growing their tax business, and understanding the tax process.

Dr. Moore launched her book on her birthday on August 21, 2021, and was overwhelmed with the fact that all the books were sold out within just a few days. Dr. Moore ordered only 200 books because she did not expect to receive such a tremendous response in a short period of time. Dr. Moore stated that this has to be a blessing because she has never seen this much support in her life. Especially after suffering the tragic loss of her biggest supporter.

Dr. Moore’s son, Shaun Moore, was just 21-years old when he was murdered in New Orleans on September 29, 2020, due to senseless violence. Naturally, she was grief-stricken and her heart continuously aches due to this incident. She wanted to give up on everything because Shaun was her business partner and made her feel like the best mother in the world. Shaun had plans to continue helping his mother grow her business and wanted to start his own trucking company.

DOES THE 58TH ANNIVERSARY MARCH ON WASHINGTON ILLUMINATE MISSTEPS OF THE PAST AND PRESENT?

Martin Luther King, Jr. (King of Love) in his prophetic way differentiated between the drum major instinct and the drum major. The King of Love warned us of the drum major instinct in which he acknowledged led to a lot of the race problems in America: A need for some people to feel that their white skin ordained them to be first.

The reverberations of these racial drum beats have sent seismic shifts through the American soil resulting in the King of Love turning over in his grave so much he has rolled right off of the American soil. The composer of the King of Love’s birthday song, Stevie Wonder, announced he too was feeling these same racial seismic shifts and concluded it was time for him to “roll out” and head for Ghana in Africa.

But a march of any sort requires a drum major to beat out the syncopated rhythm so the marchers keep time. During the 1950s, we marched to a steady drumbeat with synchronized actions: On December 5, 1955, blacks stood in solidarity to launch the Montgomery, AL bus boycott. For 381 days, black people carpooled, walked or hitched rides to their destinations. The bus boycott concluded on December 20, 1956. Our economic solidarity broke the back of Jim Crow. This was a major step we took and a strategy implemented with fervor.

WOMAN FOUND NOT GUILTY AFTER JACKSONVILLE POLICE PARKED ON HER PROPERTY AND BROKE HER TEETH WHILE ARRESTING HER

An officer parked in Brittany Chrishawn Williams' driveway in May 2020 to check emails. He refused to leave when she asked, and she was arrested and brutalized.

A woman from Jacksonville, Florida, who was facing up to 10 years in prison for felony battery on a law enforcement officer has been found not guilty after Jacksonville Police broke her teeth during her arrest.

Brittany Chrishawn Williams, however, was found guilty by the jury of a misdemeanor charge for resisting an officer without violence. She has been sentenced to 6 months probation and must undergo a mental health evaluation and anger management. She has also been required to write a letter of apology to the arresting officer that injured her, Officer C.N. Padgett.

The trial began on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, with jury selection and concluded on Friday, September 10, 2021, with the sentencing hearing.

The incident began May 13, 2020, and went viral last year after parts of the police body-worn camera were released and circulated online. The footage shows JSO officer, A. Carmona, parked in the driveway of Brittany Chrishawn Williams' home. According to the officer, he was checking emails when she asked him to leave. The officer said she “immediately threw a spoon with an unknown green substance on it at me while I was sitting in my car” which she is now found innocent of.

AWARD-WINNING BLACK ATTORNEY, ZULU ALI, SPEAKS WITH STAR JONES ABOUT HIS JOURNEY TO SUCCESS

Attorney Zulu Ali was a recent guest on The Star Treatment, a prestigious video series hosted by renowned lawyer and television personality, Star Jones. During the show, Ali, who is a practicing trial lawyer, activist, former police officer, and U.S. Marine veteran, recounted his inspiration to become an attorney.

He commented, “My grandfather, A.D. Reynolds, worked as a janitor, cleaned law offices at night. As a little boy I would go along with him and one night while cleaning the office of an attorney named Tyrus Cobb, he took me into the library and introduced me to Attorney Cobb by stating this is my grandson, he is going to be the next Avon Williams [Avon Williams was a great civil rights lawyer in Nashville, Tennessee]...

Attorney Cobb began telling me about Williams and other great civil rights lawyers and how they changed the world. I left there that day thinking that is what I wanted to do.

20 years later I was a police officer and was in probate court. The Judge was the attorney my grandfather introduced me to 20 years earlier. When he called the case he stated in front of everyone in open court "everyone this is the next Avon Williams" he then went on to tell me how great a man my grandfather was. I became very emotional [and pursued my original passion to become an attorney].”

The latest NCAA Ruling (backed by the Supreme Court) that allows student athletes to receive money for their image and likeness will change the financial prospects of many Black families in America within a very short period of time.

Since students can get paid directly from sponsors, schools and others, that income will translate into an increase in the median net worth of Black people as a whole.  

Most Black families have one or more athletes in their family.  

Sports is what we do.  

Black Americans are the best in the world and we excel in sports at a younger age.  I estimate that students as young as 12 years old will start receiving a monthly sponsorship (income) from schools, major sporting goods companies (Nike, New Balance, Adidas, etc.) as well as money from sports agents who will pay them for a first-right-of-refusal to represent them in the future if they go pro.

Actress Malika Blessing Nominated for 'Best Actress' in Hit Stage Play, 'Willie and Esther' By Hollywood Prestigious HAPAWARDS

Malika Blessing, a tremendous talent in Hollywood, is set to attend the prestigious HAPAwards, this Sunday, October 24 at The Orpheum Theatre in Los Angeles.

Blessing is nominated in the 'Best Actress' category for her role as Esther in the stage play, Willie and Esther written by James Bronson and directed by Tiffany Rebecca Royale.

Willie and Esther is also nominated in the best stage play category produced by Pamela GoodLow-Green.
