TRUSTRADIUS PUBLISHES LANDMARK RESEARCH ON PEOPLE OF COLOR IN TECH

Austin, TX  TrustRadius, the most trusted customer review platform for business technology, celebrates the publication of the first annual People of Color in Tech Report. The report presents crucial new data on representation, leadership, funding, and unconscious bias in the tech industry, and is designed to help create a more equitable future.

1,207 tech professionals participated in the first annual People of Color in Tech survey. 53% identified as people of color. THE INFORMATION DIVA PRESENTS THE LEVERAGE CONFERENCE FOR SPEAKERS, AUTHORS, AND ENTREPRENEURS

Detroit, MI  Award-winning, internationally known African-American author, coach, trainer, and speaker, Deborah Thorne, also known as The Information Diva, presents the second annual The Leverage Conference. This virtual conference for speakers, authors, and entrepreneurs will be held Thursday, December 3, 2020, through Saturday, December 5, 2020. This not to be missed virtual event, is a great opportunity to learn, network, and collaborate your way to success.

This 2 1/2 day event begins Thursday afternoon with an Author Showcase. It features a dozen authors and a first-time authors’ panel. It is free and open to the public.

Friday’s Day of Learning provides diverse topics including social media strategy, search engine optimization, team building, leadership, and more. The featured speakers include Zhe Scott, Mary Wu, Tracey Pirozzi, and Gina Gardiner. A thought leader’s roundtable will explore the timely topic of Race and Politics.

Concluding Friday’s activities is a Happy Hour and Merchant Showcase. The Merchant Showcase will support a teen entrepreneur and honor student, Naomi Jefferson-Glipa. The Happy Hour and Merchant Showcase are free and open to the public.

THE MANHATTANS the legendary Classic R&B Group originally consisted of:

Winfred “Blue” Lovett (passed Dec 9, 2014)

Richard Taylor

Kenneth “Wally” Kelley (passed Feb 17, 2015)

George “Smitty” Smith and

Edward “Sonny” Bivins (passed Dec 3,2014).

Blue and Smitty were out front as the group’s strong lead singers.

Blue was also the group leader and an outstanding songwriter whose compositions with producer Joe Evans gave the group a string of hits on Carnival Records during the mid-1960s.

When Smith became ill in 1970, Phil Terrell stepped in as temporary lead singer until a permanent replacement could be found. In the fall of that same year, Gerald Alston, whose style paid homage to the legendary Sam Cooke took over as lead singer. More a pop singer than either Lovett or Smith, Alston’s incorporation into the group enabled THE MANHATTANS to break out of their mold as “doo-woppers” and achieve major national success on Starday/King Records with a Teddy Randazzo love song entitled “A Million To One”.

BLACK AUTHOR KENYA RAHMAAN EXPOSES THE TRUTH AND BIASES OF THE AMERICAN CHILD SUPPORT SYSTEM

Detroit, MI  Many government-sanctioned entities have been implemented in our society which intentions allude to assistance but instead have caused immense harm. When we examine the inner workings of our judicial system there is a mass exclusion of many citizens' bare-bones rights. Something as simple as the relationship between a co-parent and child has been exploited and mislabeled causing unrest and confusion amongst U.S. citizens.

Author Kenya Rahmaan has spent thorough time examining the flaws of the American child support system and how it has developed into a tool of division. In her book, The Child Support Hustle, she goes into a detailed explanation of how the child support system has alienated fathers from their offspring while amassing profit for the state.

Ms. Rahmaan has discovered how the use of inaccurate labels has caused destruction amongst parents who live in separate households. The term fatherless has been heavily indoctrinated into our psyche.

We have been convinced that because the father does not live in the same home as the mother and child that he is not active. This is far from the truth. You can be an active father without living in the same household as your child based on Kenya’s findings. She goes on to explain how it is beneficial for the state to mislabel two household families.

THESE BLACK-OWNED HAIR CARE PRODUCTS CHANGED THE LIFE OF A MEMPHIS WOMAN AFTER CANCER

Nationwide -- Angela H. Brown, founder of a Black-owned brand called D’Serv Professional Hair Care, says that her products can help cancer patients regrow healthy hair after receiving chemo treatments. She comments, "We are not doctoring. We just want people to get what they D’Serv in hair care!"

One of her customers, Beverly Johnson, a former cancer patient from Memphis, Tennessee, says that she found new hope thanks to the products.

Beverly says that she had a strong dislike for wigs, and wanted to try something different. So, after becoming cancer-free in 2016, she began using products from D’Serv Professional, and in just two weeks after months of touching a bald scalp, she could already feel new hair all over her head beginning to grow back again! Within 3 ½ months, Beverly had a cute natural cut, and even years later, she continues to use the products to keep her hair healthy.

29-YEAR OLD ATTORNEY MAKES HISTORY WITH ONLINE COMMUNITY FOR MILLENNIAL BLACK WOMEN PROFESSIONALS

Nationwide Attorney Liku Madoshi, an African American female attorney from the Bay Area, is the founder of Tryb, an online community for like-minded Black women looking to engage, elevate and empower one another. She is celebrating one year with the launch of a private membership.

Since September 2019, Tryb has curated events focused on building wealth and obtaining quality wellness based on the unique experiences of Black women.

“Black women don’t get enough attention in conversations about diversity, equity, and inclusion. Instead, we are put in a melting pot with overinclusive groups like people of color, women of color or just women in general,” says Liku. “When this happens, our unique experiences, challenges, and needs are neglected, resulting in significant gaps in meaningful solutions.”

HOW ONE BLACK, WOMAN-OWNED DETROIT BUSINESS IS MAKING IT EASIER TO SHOP LOCAL

Detroit, MI  As a Black- and woman-owned Detroit-based business, Ask Jennyfer was founded with one intention – to help other small businesses thrive.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit, it encouraged entrepreneurs - like Ask Jennyfer owner Jennyfer Crawford - to look at her mission in a new way. She began enhancing online platforms at All Things Marketplace to ensure that small business owners had a space of their own to connect with other entrepreneurs and to sell their goods and services to customers.

She discovered that connecting to customers had become a particular challenge at this time. Crawford began highlighting local businesses and their efforts to help others through the COVID-19 crisis on our social channels. Once restrictions began to lift, she transitioned to spotlighting local products at outdoor market settings in and around Detroit.

That’s when inspiration struck.

“We listened to our community and found out that business owners were in need of safe, affordable ways to help store, sell and ship their products,” said Crawford. “At Ask Jennyfer, we want to help them reach customers by providing product storage, order fulfillment, and shipping services they can afford.”

HBCU FOOTBALL COACH BUDDY POUGH JOINS EFFORT TO ATTRACT MORE AFRICAN AMERICANS TO THE GREAT OUTDOORS

Nationwide -- SC State University Head Football Coach Oliver “Buddy” Pough hosted a Tailgate Tour of South Carolina state parks in mid-October to launch a marketing initiative designed to draw more African Americans to the great outdoors. The collaboration between the South Carolina Department of Parks, Recreation & Tourism and the marketing company Black Folks Camp Too, will share resources to speak specifically to this audience about enjoying state parks.

“I’ve done a lot of things in my life, but I’ve never been camping,” said Coach Pough. “My time at Table Rock State Park with Black Folks Camp Too was wonderful and I’m looking forward to a few nights RVing here in Sesqui. I’m proud to support Earl and his mission to start more conversations around the campfire.”

Pough went camping for the first time at a state park, hosted campfire conversations, did some fishing, hiking, bike riding, and paddle boating at Table Rock and Sesquicentennial state parks.
