Nationwide  "I'm pregnant" are two words men actively dating would rather not hear. Many single women are unaware there is a population of men who exist with no intention of accepting parental responsibility for their actions. Add to the equation single mothers are being murdered by their children’s fathers while involved in custody and child support cases. Dating abuse is also prevalent, as many women are experiencing while participating on various dating sites.

10 Warning Signs: Is Your Date A Deadbeat or Deadly? by Eric Legette encourages women to watch for the warning signs of men who may walk away after pregnancy occurs. According to, anyone can be a victim of domestic violence or dating violence. Statistics show that 1 in 4 women (24.3%) and 1 in 7 men (13.8%) aged 18 and older in the United States have been the victim of severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime. Further, females ages 18 to 24 and 25 to 34 experienced the highest rates of domestic violence. Nearly half of all women and men in the United States have experienced psychological aggression by an intimate partner in their lifetime (48.4% and 48.8%, respectively).

Legette as President/Founder of Father with Voices introduces the term DBDP (Deadbeat Dad Potential), defined as men who show signs that they will not accept responsibility should a pregnancy occurs.

Legette comments, "I've provided consultation for countless numbers of non-custodial and divorced fathers over the past two decades involved in visitation and custody cases. Most men who sought my services strived to be more than a financial connection to their children after a separation and divorce. But there is a population of men who are actively dating and have a different mindset towards dating. These men contacted my program and articulated their lack of desire to be responsible upon learning they were about to become a father."

He continues, "The danger is that once the woman proceeds with the pregnancy and because of the man's unwillingness to accept responsibility, child support court action often follows. This is where many cases of violence occur. My book should also be a resource for parents to discuss with teenage and college-age students, as dating abuse cases are rising within those age group. My hope is by sharing information related to my work over the past two decades it will reduce the numbers of future acts of violence committed against single mothers and women in general."
