Exclusive Interview with Zhe The SEO Queen Continues Below...

Kamau's Question: Zhe, can you tell me a little about your background? Like where you grew up, where you went to school, and maybe some things about your academic pursuits at MIT?

Zhe's Answer:  
I grew up in Long Beach, California — and I’ve always been drawn to the intersection of tech, strategy, and music. That curiosity led me to MIT, where I earned a degree in the Science of Information Technology and a Bachelor's in Music. While I was mastering algorithms and databases, I was also composing music and performing on the violin. That dual lens — analytical and creative — defines how I solve problems and deliver digital strategy today.

Kamau's Question: Who or what inspired you to take the leap of faith and diversify your love of music and go into your SEO business?

Zhe's Answer: After MIT, I began my career as a Web Applications Developer at Raytheon. But I always had an entrepreneurial fire. I loved music, yes — but I also loved results. As I was working to build another tech company from $0 to $500,000 in revenue annually I was on food stamps and I saw how some business owners were treated.

I wanted to create a company where all business could be supported with the cultural competency that they desereved. So I started networking, building websites for businesses, and helping small businesses rank on Google. I realized that when someone understands both the tech and the psychology behind a search engine, they can print money. I had the skills — and I knew the impact SEO could make. That’s when TSQ Marketing Inc. was born.


Kamau's Question: What makes SEO so important to business success today?

Zhe's Answer: When you rely solely on organic social media, you're not just trying to catch your ideal client’s attention — you're competing with Game of Thrones recaps, celebrity scandals, and the latest developments in the Diddy trial. It’s like casting a net into an ocean filled with distractions, hoping the right fish swims by. 

SEO, on the other hand, is like shooting fish in a barrel. You're showing up right when your ideal client is actively searching for what you offer. Instead of vying for attention against hundreds of millions on social, you're narrowing the field to a handful — maybe none — of direct competitors.

Today’s buyer does their homework. Before they buy, they Google. If your brand doesn’t appear in search, you're missing out on your share of the 2 trillion annual searches happening online.

And with the rise of generative search platforms like ChatGPT, Gemini, DeepSeek, and Perplexity, having a strong, consistent digital presence is more important than ever. If you show up looking weak — or worse, not at all — you're already out of the running.

SEO is where credibility meets visibility. It earns trust before a single conversation ever happens. It works 24/7, it compounds over time, and — when done right — it transforms your website into your best-performing salesperson. No salary. No sick days. Just results.


Kamau's Question: Can you tell us about some of your goals and strategies for using SEO to promote your client’s businesses?

Zhe's Answer: Every strategy I use starts with one question: How do we make it easy for your ideal client to find you, trust you, and buy from you?

That means optimizing for three things:

  • 📈 Visibility (ranking high for keywords that matter),

  • ✅ Credibility (through content, reviews, and authority signals),

  • 💰 Profitability (converting traffic into leads and leads into clients).

I reverse-engineer buyer behavior. I track everything — rankings, click-through rates, bounce rates, conversions. Because it’s not about traffic for traffic’s sake. It’s about targeted traffic that buys.


Kamau's Question: Are there differences in applying SEO techniques for major corporate brands in contrast to small businesses which tend to focus on e-commerce and direct online sales operations?

Zhe's Answer: Absolutely.

Corporate brands are playing chess — lots of moving pieces, long timelines, heavy on brand awareness and reputation management. Small businesses are playing speed chess. They need results yesterday. That’s why I tailor strategies based on budget, bandwidth, and goals.

For small e-commerce clients, I often lead with technical SEO, product page optimization, and content that drives buyer intent. For large brands, we layer in enterprise tools, digital pr, competitive intelligence, and integrated campaigns. Different plays. Same goal: win page one.


Kamau's Question: What unique strategies, insights, and programs do you use that are different from other SEOs out there?

Zhe's Answer: Most SEO agencies throw a checklist at your website. I build custom gameplans based on business outcomes. That’s the difference.

I use a blend of:

  • Algorithm-proof SEO fundamentals (like keyword strategy and internal linking),

  • Behavioral data (like user flow and conversion tracking),

  • Content engineering (content that ranks AND sells),

  • Technical cleanup (because Google cares about speed, structure, and clarity).

I also bring a background in enterprise tech and music — which means I think in systems and patterns. I see what others miss. And I never stop testing.
