Progressive Prophetic Rappers: Millennial Generation Y, 1980-1994, Generation Z, Zoomers, 1995-2009, and Generation Alpha, 2010-2024, America Society's Voices of Faith, Hope and Spirituality

By Dr. Charles Singleton

First, thank each of you for reading and sharing my article, "West African Griots What is Rap Music All About? Our Storytelling Heritage or Rappers Dying Senselessly." Respectfully and respectively, I hope that the words written in this essay will encourage all of us to continue learning about our struggles; songs and stories, since the 13th century (800+Years).

Yes, today's rhythmical 'progressive prophetic' hip-hop music, or vocal heartfelt utterances are truly telling Our story: the American story of captives, slavery, Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, oppression; Morrill Act of 1862 and1890: Land-Granted Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), discrimination, Plessy v. Ferguson,1896, U.S. Supreme Court landmark decision "separate but equal," Brown v. Board of Education, 1954, 1955, state-sponsored segregation in public schools overturned; injustice, civil rights: Affirmative Action vs Discrimination 1961, Civil Rights Act of 1964 outlaws discrimination, Critical race theory (CRT:1994 - 2021), racial justice and US laws; Black Lives Matter, Evangelical scriptures and spirituality, Christian love and faith.  Please checkout American Grammy Award Winner Lecrae, Christian rapper, and entrepreneur Lecrae Devaughn Moore: video Deep End, June 25, 2020, a must see below...

Walter Brueggemann, an American Old Testament Bible scholar, and theologian wrote, "The task of prophetic (Christian) ministry is to nurture, nourish and evoke a consciousness and perception alternative to the consciousness and perception of the dominant culture." Derek Minor, In Free Rapper, Derek Johnson, Jr.'s song truly echoes progressive prophetic soulful beliefs, and his lyrics, “We supposed to be free; why I feel like chains hanging on me."
