As The World Turns  - It Spins Off Its Axis Of Humanity

By JV Howard

As the world turns at a dizzying pace with concurrent epiphenomenon - COVID-19 and police brutality - both have mutated causing unprecedented damage, fallout, mayhem, and reactions. As COVID-19 does what a virus is supposed to do - mutate, humans have committed untold misery via violations of the "do unto others as you would have them do unto you tenet." Across cultures, boundaries, age, nationality, generations, and history pandemics have their place in the natural kingdom but police brutality is a man-made manifestation that has no place in societies.

As a young boy I remember back in the day as they like to say when I heard my grandmother say "I am sick and tired of being sick and tired," - and I had no idea what she meant at the time. Today I find myself saying those same words - I am sick and tired of being sick and tired of the incessant and senseless killing of black people....and now all people.

One connection from our history today have three links:

Whites; and...
Cowardice is a trait wherein excessive fear and excessive self-concern override doing or saying what is right, good, and of help to others or oneself in a time of need. It is the opposite of courage.

As a label, "cowardice" indicates a failure of character in the face of a challenge. One who succumbs to cowardice is known as a coward.

It is such a violation of human interaction that many military codes of justice proscribe cowardice in combat as punishable by death. Nobody likes a snitch and everybody despises a coward.

Literature Scholar Khefa Nosakhere Weights In On Why We’re Dying From COVID-19 Due To Institutional Racism

Khefa Nosakhere has released his first non-fiction work entitled "Institutional Racism and the Search for African American Masculinity and Identity in Selected Works of Richard Wright." Why are Black people dying at such a disproportionate rate from the Corona virus? Generational poverty, poor access to good healthcare, and Institutional Racism. The book addresses how institutional racism and white male supremacy have intimately shaped the lives of:

Bigger Thomas (Native Son),
Richard Wright (Black Boy)
Fred Daniels (The Man Who Lived Underground).  For More Info on his dynamic thought provoking work: Click Here

Now I ask is it a brave man who kills black men and women who are unarmed and compliant - time and time again?  Who shoots a women in her sleep, a man in the back while jogging, a brother out for a walk, or two brothers clamoring - while totally subdued - for the breathe of life - but a coward?  These acts mark a disassociation from human empathy as a 75 year old man gets pushed to ground and left with a head injury all while the Pope takes a knee via a clergyman a world away.

A little black girl couldn’t sell water, a black guy can’t bird watch, or jog, or Henry Louis Gates walk into his own house without the flag of suspicious being associated with their melanin. This kind of behavior is so systemic it has DNA written all over it. It’s coded - white supremacy, privilege, and denial.

Oddly, ever hear of a white person getting arrested for going into his home, or bird watching, or jogging, or have a black cop with his knee on a white man's neck or a team of black cops choke a white man while others watched - hell no.

The blue suits with a badge (cop) has a long history killing blacks sanctioned by  a second blue suit (lawyer) twisting the legal language of the autopsy while a third blue robe with a gavel (judge) interpret systemic legal wrangling of policies with double standards - to protect and serve - white privilege and white interest. Let's not forget the hand-off to another blue uniform (warden) whose role does not go unnoticed with the largest prison population in the world. Systemic playbook - written and executed, underscore and undenied, and now under attack.

When scientists want to dissect a virus they look deeper into the genetic codes that define it, when social scientist look to qualify antisocial behavior they look in the history of the group - in this case - police brutality hasn’t always been a blue suit but it has always had a white face.

This white privileged does not pertain to access only it also pertains to denial of basic human rights and decency. James Baldwin scorched this mindset in his “ The Fire Next Time “ which plays out today - as the Fire This Time all over the world - night and day with young and old. No wonder we are all - check diversity of the crowd - sick and tired of being sick and tired of this blue suit BS.

While the tipping point maybe the over 8 minutes of breathlessness the flashpoint has been repeated suffocation and subjugation here and abroad by a plethora of police organizations: FBI, DEA, US Secret Service, US Marshalls, Homeland Security, US Customs, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms, Immigrations & Customs, US Capital Police, National Guards, Federal Air Marshall, and believe it or not the US Indian Police.

It was 53 years ago that Martin Luther King, Jr. explained a riot is the language of the unheard. They heard us and continued to ignore us but not anymore. George Floyd murals will forever represent the global blowback against inhuman treatment. This next generation is less tolerant, less acquiescent, but more demanding of what Malcolm X approach advocates: cease this incessant sanctioned killing of black life, in particular and all life in general, “by an means necessary.”

Many have suggested citizens oversight in policing might help. There’s a lot of people that have made complaints to the police but the problem is the internal affairs division of a police department investigates its own, and that’s nothing but blueracracy. It took five years for the justice department to conclude it’s investigation of the death of Eric Garner. The question then becomes who is policing the police? Here the thing - just as they profile us we profile them - we know how the blue coward system operates and it has been exposed outright from top to bottom, left to right, center to opposite and across the world.

Systemic racism begets systemic change. Just as COVID19 will usher in a new normal so must the fire burning this time do the same. While a litany of legislation must take place the first thing needed is for the Supreme Court to deal with is a major symptom of police brutality - implied immunity.

These are all cowardly acts perpetrated, demonstrated, and promulgated over a long period of time and the world is sick of it too. Anti-racism protests sparked by the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis have spread across the world, from New Zealand to Brazil. Meanwhile, adversaries including China and Iran have criticized the U.S. government’s handling of the demonstration.

As the cicadas ascend from their 17 yr hiatus, storms brew along the middle passage, a pandemic run its course, social unrest dictates change, and an election pending, it a good time, if not a bad time, to read the signs:

Humanity’s call to Arms means YOU MATTER TOO: BLM
