FOUNDERS LAUNCH FASTEST GROWING BLACK-OWNED COMMUNITY OF MENTAL HEALTH PROFESSIONALS

 Clinicians of Color is a community of mental health professionals whose mission is to connect BIPOC mental health communities to services. Clinicians of Color was founded by Lisa Savage, LCSW, and Kim L. Knight five years ago. These two mental health professionals met on Facebook and immediately clicked. They realized that Black and Brown therapists were doing amazing things but often overlooked. So, Lisa and Kim decided to create a platform to elevate Black and Brown therapists and provide them with support, training, and a welcoming community.

Since its inception, Clinicians of Color has increased to a community of 20k members. They believe strongly in the power of community and engage in ongoing activities to cultivate the community.

After the killing of George Floyd, it became amply evident that the Black communities needed mental health services but accessing them was challenging. Many in these communities were unaware of the resources and sought to connect with therapists who represented their race and understood their cultural nuances. Clinicians of Color heard the call and decided to create a mental health directory to help connect communities to therapists who look like them. Their objective was to make it easier for Black and Brown people to find a therapist. The directory has therapists representing almost every state with various specialties. SURVIVING CHAOS

AUTHOR TELLS HIS STORY ABOUT GROWING IN EXTREME POVERTY WITH A SCHIZOPHRENIC MOM

Harold Phifer has announced the publication of his second book, a collection of autobiographical short stories exploring his sad and often appalling upbringing in Columbus, Mississippi.  Kept secret for more than 50 years, Phifer’s childhood was largely forgotten until an explosion during a job in Afghanistan forced him to take some time off to recover in a paradise beach resort in Thailand.

While there, he met an unusual but compassionate stranger who pulled him into a long discussion about his experiences growing up. Hours later, Phifer finally found a measure of peace from the ghosts of his past and began planning out the stories that would later appear in Surviving Chaos. The book is available for purchase via AmazonBarnes & Noble, and Audible.  For More Info Click Here

NEW MEMOIR FROM
ARMY CHAPLAIN DR. JAMES DARREN KEY SHARES A MESSAGE OF HOPE, FAITH AND MORE

Author and U.S. Army chaplain James Darren Key highlights 40 lessons and stories about race, love, honor, and faith to inspire people during changing times in his new memoir A Long Way from Crenshaw: Lessons and Stories about Race, Love, Honor, and Faith for These Changing Times (published by WestBow Press).

With the purpose of being accessible to all, the author writes in a conversational style. Exploring how life can change, and not always positively, he demonstrates how the human spirit can overcome those circumstances.

Additionally, Key speaks candidly about growing up Black in California in the 1970s and 1980s. Wanting to empower others, the author examines his own weaknesses and fears.

Through this study, he hopes to help people:

• recognize failures and successes along their journey;
• approach race and diversity with sensitivity and courage;
• heal from an unhealthy relationship before starting a new one;
• face trials and controversy with unshakable faith.

You can order "A Long Way from Crenshaw" at Amazon and Barnes & Noble

In July, Clinicians of Color sponsors an online webinar for their therapist community. It’s called- Healing ourselves to heal others. The keynote speaker for this webinar is Dr. Joy DeGruy. Dr. DeGruy expanded a concept originally developed by Dr. Alvin Poussaint—of Post-Traumatic Slavery Syndrome and the author of a book of the same name. In this book, she posits that Black people continue to suffer from the ill effects of slavery and ongoing oppression. Dr. Degruy connects low self-esteem, ongoing anger, and internalized racism in Black people to post-traumatic slave syndrome. She believes that social and structural changes can only change this syndrome. There will be two other presenters during the webinar — Michelle Phillips and LeNaya Crawford.

The webinar will empower Black and Brown therapists to understand the concept of post-traumatic slavery syndrome and what they can do to help dismantle systems of oppression and empower the communities they serve.
