Nationwide -- Michelle Timberlake, founder of Marjorie's Beef Jerky, continues to make history as founder of the only Black woman-owned company in the country that manufactures, distributes and sells it's own brand of beef jerky. Recently, the company drew crowds of people during their appearance at the IGES Trade Show in Tennessee, and even closed some new distribution deals and purchase orders.
Michelle says that she explains to gift store owners/buyers as well as distributors, that her beef jerky products are like no other beef jerky products on the market. "Our beef jerkey is premium meat, high in quality, high in protein, with no MSG or preservatives outside of the soy sauce. Even more, it's only 150 calories per bag," she told them.
Michelle says she created quite an uproar at that trade show in particular. After encouraging those who don't even like beef jerky to try her products, she says that everyone of them all became new customers. (Article continues below)
Last year, Marjorie's Beef Jerky, which has sold very strongly across the country, was chosen as a supplier for NFL Players Training Camp, and her bags of beef jerky were distributed as well to Major League Baseball players. Her products can mostly be found in gift/souvenir stores, speciality stores, major theme parks, and at several state parks across the country.

A loving tribute to her parents
The woman displayed on every bag of Marjorie's Beef Jerky is Michelle's mother, the late Marjorie Leona Dawson, who was the one who would always taste Mher beef jerky giving her two thumbs up if she liked the flavors. Michelle considers her mother to be her hero and mentor for believing in her dream to someday launch her own line of beef jerky products.
She comments, "It took 27 years for someone to give me that break by believing in me, and now I am here with the biggest tastiest beef jerky that money can buy! And I owe this thanks to my mother, who told me that she wouldn't live long enough to see my products come out on the store shelves."
"But my mother knew how determined I was," she continues. "And I promised her that the world will see her face on every bag, and that I would name the company after her."
She adds, "My mother is now gone, and my father, James E. Timberlake, has stepped in and helped me to get my products noticed all over the world. Having my father by my side really helps me with the loss of my mother because he stays involved and talks to me about the company's success and potential.
I am so grateful to my father for that because I love that he is involved in giving me advice, and he always has uplifting things to say to me." In the near future, Michelle is looking forward to possibly using her dad's BBQ flavor over her own BBQ barbeque flavor as an upcoming product release.
She says that she wants to implement a way of bonding with her father because he too is her hero. "Ultimately, I am just glad that I made my parents proud!" she says.
