LOCAL BLACK BARBER TURNED ENTREPRENEUR CREATES BEARD AND LOC OIL BRAND FOR HIS CLIENTS, HIS COMMUNITY, AND BEYOND

What started as a fun source of income for Darius “Cali Barber” Walker has led to his legacy. The highly sought-after Nashville, Tennessee-based licensed barber has created Cali Barber Beard and Loc Oil for use on your hair and skin. The multipurpose product is popular among men and women from diverse backgrounds and is attracting increasing interest.

With names inspired by Walker’s customers, Lemon Q, Butta, Georgia Boy, and OnGod, are each specially formulated to moisturize, soothe and stimulate. The essential ingredients include Black Seed Oil, Coconut Oil, Eucalyptus, and more.

Walker comments, “Lemon Q came about because of its fresh lemon scent. It’s vibrant, refreshing, and wakes up your senses. The “Q” is from the model on the bottle, Stephen, a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. The ingredients are Black Seed Oil, Lemon Citrus and Eucalyptus.”

He continues, “Butta came from my client, Tyrone Lee, a retired fireman from Chicago. He said, ‘Cali, I got one word for this oil you put on my face — butta!’ The ingredients are Black Seed Oil, Orange Citrus and Vanilla.”

THE ANJEL APP LETS USERS ACTIVATE THEIR OWN BODY CAMS WHEN PULLED OVER BY POLICE

James A. Samuel, Jr., is a Black veteran who has launched a new app called ANJEL Tech that turns any smartphone into the world’s most powerful bodycam during confrontations with the police. James said that he became tired of raising kids in a world that forces them to understand they’re unsafe in their skin before they even learn their ABCs.

In past weeks in April, the world has been watching Derek Chauvin on trial for murder charges for the killing of George Floyd; seeing news about 2nd Lt. Caron Nazario, who is Black and Latino, getting pulled over by two police officers in Windsor, Virginia; and the killing of Daunte Wright at the hands of police. And these only are a few of too many stories of Black people being racially profiled and fearing for safety when being pulled over by police.

ANJEL Tech is an innovative solution to increase safety and peace of mind in the Black community. The app is secure, mobile, and cloud-based. James says that he created it because he’s passionate about preventing your loved ones from becoming another painful statistic. "Body cams can’t just be for police," he says. "So I created ANJEL Tech to enable a person’s phone to act as a body cam and a lifeline to loved ones to increase safety and accountability."

He continues, "When George Floyd was being asphyxiated, he was calling out verbally for his mother. When Lt. Caron Nazario was pulled over, he recorded the incident on his phone, but imagine if they both had been able to instantly and automatically alert their loved ones to come. Imagine if the footage of any these horrific incident had been controlled by the victim himself. That’s what ANJEL Tech does. I've created an app that reduces the emotional, financial, and physical toll of racial profiling."

Multi-talented Musical Prodigy Gina Williams Works Creatively To Releash 5 Albums This Year In Different Genres

Gina Williams, is quietly shattering barriers of how things “should be”.  I caught up with the multitalented singer and pianist who diversely sings and performs in 5 different musical forms.  Williams, a product of striving Jamaican roots by way of a challenging Canadian upbringing - has a fascinating story to tell!

The singer, pianist, songwriter, and composer released a choral and orchestral album called “Olympiad” and performed with 4 choirs and 2 orchestras on Ukrainian National Television in 2019.

This year she is releasing 5 albums - Each in a different genre: EDM, Caribbean, Gospel, Classical, and Rock.

The multi genre musician was born to Jamaican parents in the prairies of Alberta.

Growing up with racism and prejudice, she spent most of her years hiding her gift of music - the ability to hear finished music in her head because somehow she believed “people like her shouldn’t be the one with “that kind of a gift.” Decades later, she finally accepts herself and her attraction to anyone unconventional.

PRISON REFORM PROJECT LAUNCHES TO HELP THOUSANDS OF INNOCENT BLACK MEN WHO ARE INCARCERATED

A new movement called The Prison Reform Project has officially launched to help publicize and bring national attention to the thousands of innocent Black prisoners who have been wrongfully convicted.

According to the U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics, Black men account for about 34% of the total male prison population, and many of them are in prison for petty crimes such as possession of marijuana which is now legal in most states.

Research also reveals that there is a 52 percent chance that a low-income Black man has been behind bars at one point during his life. Even worse, both Black men and women are more likely to be convicted for a crime that they didn't commit, serve more time in prison, and have a much harder time getting back on their feet when and if they are released back into society.

ASHLIE AMBER LEADS THE CHARGE FOR BLACK FEMALES TO DOMINATE COUNTRY MUSIC CHARTS

Ashlie Amber is challenging herself to not only make her mark on country music but to also normalize her milestones as a woman of color. Her goal? To be a leading force as the first black female country artist to dominate the Top 40. Her dream? To abolish the stigma that this feat was something no one saw coming. For Ashlie Amber, this isn't just about breaking records; it's about changing the course of history so that her success will not be an anomaly.

"I'm not a gimmick," Amber asserts, "and my brand isn't a sales piece. I didn't choose country music to elicit some kind of shock value; I'm a country artist because that's who I am at my core. I'm also a Black woman, and those two facts shouldn't be such a rare combination."

The release of Ashlie Amber's single "Those Nights" reminds us that the scope of country music hasn't evolved, but rather, its roots have been uncovered. A collaboration with Universal songwriter Morgan Matthews— who recently celebrated a Billboard #1 as the producer of Alicia Keys and Miguel's "Show Me Love" — "Those Nights" proves that country, soul and R&B have always been cut from the same cloth. The track also serves as the first self-penned release of Ashlie's career, along with the launch of her publishing company Diva Music Group.

THIS BLACK WOMAN HOTEL ENTREPRENEUR WANTS YOU TO STAY AT A BLACK-OWNED HOTEL THIS SUMMER

“Once you go Black, you never go back!” Black hotel owner and commercial real estate investor Davonne Reaves hopes the popular cheeky catchphrase rings true for those who stay at one of thousands of Black-owned hotels and bed & breakfasts across America this summer.

“In 2019, MMGYGlobal reported that African Americans spent over $109 billion on travel, but according to The National Association of Black Hotel Owners Operators and Developers, a trade organization, African-Americans own less than two percent of the nation’s hotels. Clearly, there’s a disconnect there and I’m trying to change that,” explains Atlanta-based Reaves who nabbed national headlines in January 2021 for her $8.3 million acquisition of a Home2 Suites by Hilton hotel in El Reno, Oklahoma, just outside Oklahoma City.

She secured the all-suite property with business partner and former Georgia State University roommate, Jessica Myers and a diverse group of investors, mostly Millennials. The purchase earned her and Myers the unique distinction of becoming what is believed to be the youngest African American woman to ever co-own a major hotel chain property.
