YOUNG SISTER ENTREPRENEURS LAUNCH NEW LINE OF EDUCATIONAL STEM TOYS IN RETAIL STORES

10-year-old Ava N. Simmons (aka Ava the STEM Princess®) and her sister Chynah Jeter of Durham, North Carolina, have partnered with retailers across the U.S. and Canada to launch their Team Genius Squad educational STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Toy Line. Their products include Experiment Coloring Books, DIY Slime, and Experiment Kits that make electricity from alternative sources such as food, wind, and the sun. Their first in-store launch took place at Marbles PlayStore in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina, and they plan to conduct more in-store launches at major retailers over the next 12 months.

“Once Marbles PlayStore partnered with Team Genius Squad, it paved the way for other retail partnerships. We greatly appreciate Marbles PlayStore for believing in our brand and the quality of our products,” said Chynah.

They created Team Genius Squad during the pandemic when Ava was diagnosed with Dyslexia, significantly impacting her reading ability. To support her learning journey, and with the help of her parents (Tia and Terrence Simmons) and grandmother (Mary Foy), Ava began to make STEM experiment videos on YouTube. Not only did her reading and math skills improve through skit writing and developing eye-catching experiments, but there was also an overwhelming response from the community.

Nelson Long Survived 37 Years In
Prison Wrongfully Convicted And
Now Is Illustrating His Life Forward
Acclaimed Exonerated Artist Nelson Long Looks To Illustrate His Life Forward

By Kamau Austin with Nelson Long

Many people in New York and nationwide have heard of the Central Park AKA The Exonerated 5 and Kalief Browder.  The Exonerated 5 were 5 Black and Brown teenagers and young men who were wrongly convicted and were exonerated years later because of a confession of the real Central Park rapist, and other evidence.  Kalief Browder, was put on the infamous Riker's Island, due to lack of bail money, suffered cruel punishment, and although he received $3.3 million settlement from the New York government later system took his own life.

However, few people know about Nelson Long
.  Long was wrongfully convicted of a murder for 37 years in NYC, only to be exonerated,
during the COVID-19 epidemic, when the real killer gave a death bed confession.

Nelson recounts how he endured unspeakable horrors, neglect, and abuse in prison many times - fighting for his life.  Despite the horrific conditions in prison Nelson Long, enrolled and graduated from college courses, legally advocated for himself, and made money developing and selling his artwork behind bars.

He emerged from prison having to navigate a world of homeless shelters on one side and advanced digital computer, internet, and smart phone technology on the other.  Long emphasizes "y'all have been using this technology all this time but all this is new to me."

Nevertheless, Nelson, has been able to start Facebook Groups and use apps on his phone.  He is a rising symbol of survival and overcoming injustice.  You can see a sample of his artwork below...

Dream Exchange CEO Speaks at
Historic National Black Business Conference, Forges Transformative Partnership with
National Black Chamber of Commerce ®

Joe Cecala, Founder and CEO of Dream Exchange, was invited to speak at the National Black Business Conference which took place in Atlanta, Georgia on August 24-26. With a resounding commitment to empowering a new generation of entrepreneurs, a historic agreement that marked the beginning of an unprecedented partnership between Dream Exchange and the National Black Chamber of Commerce ® (NBCC) was solidified and signed.

Dream Exchange
Beyond the historic signing, Joe Cecala lent his expertise to the conference through dynamic panel discussions. Drawing upon his experience as a trailblazer in the financial and technology sectors, Cecala engaged in thought-provoking conversations about the challenges and opportunities that minority-owned businesses encounter in their pursuit of capital.

Namely, since the late 1990's not only has the total number of public companies declined by nearly 50%, the number of small initial public offerings (IPOs) has declined from 70-90% of the IPO market to just 20-30%, according to a white paper written by Dream Exchange in 2018. A proposed solution to this problem is the Main Street Growth Act, a new legislation that will allow for the creation of a new type of stock exchange specifically designed for small and emerging early-stage businesses providing access to capital for more underrepresented businesses.

Happy National Daughters Day nZinga

I just saw from a Facebook friend that today is National Daughter's Day. I have to SHOUT Out my daughter and Co-Publisher Nzinga-l Austin!

What a blessing she is to me.

When we brought her home from the hospital she was quiet the first night but after that would cry/scream at the top of her voice/lungs - for 8 hours straight! We'd have pick her up and walk with her until she'd fall asleep.

She'd fall asleep for 40 minutes or so then get up and scream and cry for another 6 or 7 hours straight. Her mom and me would walk around like zombies we were so exhausted.

We struggled over the years finding her the right schools, helping her deal with bullying and teasing by other kids, and her depression and suicidal thoughts. She and we have been thru a lot.

However, today she is 24 and although still has challenges she is a talented artist, writer, singer, and award winning blogger and community advocate. I'd never believe that with how hard I had to teach my daughter things she now teaches me things, helps me in our business, and gives me good advice.

Her life illustrates to me peeps don't give up. God is still in the miracle business!

I don't understand why God does or allows certain things, but I can truly say having to help raise my daughter has made me a better person. I feel blessed God entrusted her soul to us.

Get The Scoop On The New Cartoon Teaching African Culture - Bino And Fino

By nZinga Austin, Co-Publisher of Scoop Publications

When I first saw Bino and Fino it was a video on Youtube that shows different cartoons from different countries.

I did not know about Bino and Fino at first because the show only aired in Africa. It was on Nickelodeon, and on Disney Channel, but I have never saw it on those channels because it aired on these channels only in Africa.

This cartoon is good in a way.   It teaches kids about African Culture.

But the animation and the cartoon the way it is drawn I my opinion.   It is not so good.  I think they could of done better with the drawing.
