CALIFORNIA ‘BRILLIANT GIRL’ SAYS BLACK GIRLS CAN BE SUPERHEROES TOO!

Nationwide Just being themselves, mocha or bronze, short hair or long, nappy or straight, women of color are on the front line and positioned for success in this decade and decades to come. Shaneisha Dodson is one of the luminaries whose brilliance is glowing.

Originally from Lonoke, Arkansas, but now living in California, this young gifted Black woman is getting ready to launch her new company, Brilliant Girl. She developed this company to deposit in young Black and brown girls the desire to think out of the box and dream big.

Dodson, an innovator with a heart for her community, grew up in small-town America with a loving, supportive family that encouraged her to do her best. With limited exposure, she knew that the world had much more to offer, even for little Black girls.

Brilliant Girl will be an inspirational hub for young Black and brown girls. Her company will celebrate Black girl joy, and will aim to provide more representation in the doll industry by creating ethnic dolls and products that explore STEM (science, technology, engineering, and math) careers.

In a time where young girls must search high and low to find dolls and magazine covers that represent them, Shaneisha is changing the narrative. This HBCU grad is launching her first 18-inch superhero doll named Sugamama, which is based on her book The Adventures of Sugamama.

This fun-to-read story is about a little Black girl with curly afro puffs who wakes up in the middle of the night and finds out that she is a superhero. She is ready and equipped to save the children from the monster that hides under their bed. Yes, even little brown girls with natural hair can be superheroes too.

Shaneisha is a hero in her own right. She is the founder of Black Girlz Productions and is an award-winning playwright with many accomplishments including, receiving many awards for her literary works, having written, directed, and produced three full-length productions, and winning best theatrical presentation by NYC Success in the Arts for her one-act play which debuted off-Broadway in NYC at the Strawberry One Act Festival.

Besides this, Drama Notebook published her children’s play “Dog, Cat & The Red Bird,” and most recently, her short film “Justice” is an official selection for the 12th Annual Bronzelens Film Festival.
