New Book Reveals How Black People in LA Have Always Been Technologically Behind

 A decade after its initial release, author Clinton Galloway reintroduces Anatomy of a Hustle: Cable Comes to South Central L.A. to today’s more discerning audiences. This 354-page tome chronicles technology deprivation and a grievance with L.A. policymakers that made it all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The 2025 inauguration of the 47th president of the United States has Black voters feeling disillusioned and betrayed as executive orders target DE&I initiatives and propose rollbacks of existing policies. Voters are now seemingly more astute than ever. Those who don’t believe there may have been foul analytics at play have already decided for themselves who to blame. However, unresolved grievances among constituents can leave even the experts underestimating the margin of error in a tight political race, a factor now more relevant than ever.

Black Children’s Book Week, Now in Its Fourth Year, Continues to Center Black Joy

 During tumultuous times, joy can be an act of resistance, and exactly what is needed to keep the faith and keep going. The fourth annual celebration of Black Children’s Book Week starts on February 23rd and thousands are gearing up to participate. Founded in 2022 by social entrepreneur and author Veronica N. Chapman, Black Children’s Book Week (BCBW) is a global celebration of Black children and the power of Black representation in children’s books.

Harnessing the power of representation

Chapman’s goal is to “raise the vibration in the world” for Black children and highlight the power of positive representation. “Publishing children’s books with Black protagonists is a form of activism because it ensures that Black children see themselves represented so they can develop both a love for reading and for themselves,” says Chapman. “Representation matters because it is a protective force, as research shows that positive representation increases Black children’s self-esteem, and helps protect them from the impact of racism.”

V Agency Spreads Football To The World

CAPE TOWN; South Africa --

The Hungarian based global sports and football brand, V Agency, is undertaking a new approach to spread 'the beautiful game' of football to all areas of the world.

For example, just this month of February 2025, the sports group hosted a Football & Education Integration Workshop in Abuja, Nigeria, bringing together key football stakeholders to explore how education and technology can revolutionize scouting in Nigeria.

The event welcomed esteemed guests, including: Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF); Gbenga Elegbeleye, Chairman of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL25); Lorand Endreffy, Ambassador of Hungary and other industry experts, club representatives, and passionate football professionals.

V Agency CEO, Alexandra Vegh, delivered a keynote speech at this prestigious event.

Vegh emphasized the critical role of education and technology in shaping the future of Nigerian football, creating clear pathways for players and professionals.

She said: "At V Agency, our mission is to bridge the gap between talent and opportunity—providing aspiring scouts and football professionals with the knowledge, skills, and industry connections needed to succeed."

 Award-winning author, educator, and poet Shonda Buchanan’s new poetry collection, The Lost Songs of Nina Simone (RIZE Press, May 2025), explores the life of the incomprehensible Nina Simone, concert pianist, singer, and Civil Rights activist. With this book, Buchanan is declaring this “The Century of the Black Woman”, providing a glimpse into not only Simone’s life, but the lives of Black women in America, past and present, and their choices in a myopic, unforgiving country.

Buchanan explores Simone’s personal history, heritage, family, music, artistry, and trauma while revisiting many of the themes that run through Buchanan’s previous work: historical injustice, cultural representation, identity reclamation, and the interplay of spirit, survival, and creativity.

From Nostalgia to Pride: “A Black Thang” Captures the Multifaceted Black Experience Through Stunning Illustrations

 Illustrator Donald Powell, a passionate artist from Sacramento, California, presents A Black Thang: The Good, Bad, Ugly, Pride, and Flava of the Black Experience, a visual body of creative work about the Black experience that transcends the boundaries of traditional art unlike ever before.

Born in 1961, Don’s artistic journey began in kindergarten where scribbles of comic book characters would initiate a journey of evolution to the detailed, intricate, and realistic illustrations of “A Black Thang.

The turning point of this journey occurred at age 13 while attending an all-white school in Long Beach, California, where he would witness first-hand racial and cultural divides. This enlightening experience of the contrasts and infectious distinctiveness between his race and others sparked intrigue and a transformation in himself and his art. Simple scribbles would grow with him into illustrations documenting what he saw of his Soul Brothers and Sisters.

Stop Jumping on the Bandwagon

In today’s fast-paced digital world, trends come and go at the speed of a swipe.
Social media floods our timelines with viral movements, overnight experts, and the latest “must-follow” ideologies.

But in this whirlwind of opinions and bandwagon activism, I challenge you to pause and ask yourself: Are you truly invested in what you support, or are you just going along for the ride?

Bandwagon culture isn’t new. It has existed in politics, business, and entertainment for decades. However, the rise of social media has amplified its reach, making it easy for people to adopt causes, cancel individuals, or champion movements without fully understanding their origins, impact, or consequences.

It’s effortless to repost a hashtag, criticize from the sidelines, or align with the loudest voices without doing any real work. But does that create meaningful change? Or are we just riding waves without substance?
