Civil Rights Attorney Launches National Directory That Will Feature 1,000 Black Lawyers to Serve 1 Million Black Households

Kisha A. Brown, Esq., an award-winning civil rights attorney and speaker Kisha A. Brown, Esq., is the founder of Justis Connection, a Black-owned legaltech platform committed to connecting people with trusted Black lawyers across every legal practice area. As the fastest-growing national Black Lawyer Directory, Justis Connection is proud to announce its national expansion, with a bold mission: to build a powerful network of 1,000 Black lawyers ready to serve 1 million Black households across the United States.

Less than 5% of lawyers in America are Black, a figure that has remained stagnant for over two decades. Yet legal challenges — from protecting assets and fighting discrimination to starting businesses and navigating custody battles — require trusted, culturally attuned legal counsel. Justis Connection was created to bridge that gap.

“Legal protection is local. You can’t rely on a random search to find someone who truly understands your community, your culture, and your case. You need a local lawyer who’s invested in your outcomes, not just your billable hours,” said Kisha. “We’re building a pipeline of protection — a modern-day Green Book for justice — so that no matter where you are, there’s a trusted Black lawyer within reach.”

With founding members like Ben Crump and Billy Murphy Jr., Justis Connection represents a deep bench of legal firepower across all practice areas, including:

Business Law (contracts, intellectual property, employment law)

Estate Planning (wills, trusts, inheritance protection)

 Civil Rights & Criminal Defense

 Family Law (custody, divorce, support)

Personal Injury (auto accidents, medical malpractice)

Real Estate, Tax Law, Cannabis Law, and more

This expansion is made possible by strategic partnerships with more than a dozen Black-led organizations, including BuyBlack, CHIPS Network, the National Association of Black Cannabis Lawyers, ShoptheHood.TV, Black Men Network, Minority Cannabis Business Association, Black in HR, SistahBiz, Black Think Tank, Afros & Audio Festival, Black Church Food Security Network, the Association of Black Estate Planning Professionals, and others working to elevate Black wealth, safety, and self-determination.

“Being part of Justis Connection means I can be discovered by clients who need me most,” said Hasson Barnes, Esq., a family and business attorney based in Baltimore, Maryland.

With a user-friendly online platform, an interactive attorney directory, and an editorial blog powered by Black legal experts, Justis Connection is making it easier to find a Black lawyer near you.
