Atlantic Ocean Baptism

Atlantic Ocean Baptism

An excursion to the Outer Banks, NC is routine this time of year – exclude the pandemic disruption – to get the Little Mermaid (rental house name) ready for the upcoming season which promises to be a robust year. People are anxious for an escape from the lockdown Covid 19 imposed and rekindle some sense of normalcy.

Owners and renters alike are desperate to collect and pay a premium for the consummate vacation get away. While some have a desire to swim, water ski, build sand castles, walk the beach in shorts, and play cards late into night others have a more individualized agenda.

The Little Mermaid sits 200 feet from the 2nd largest of the worlds five oceans. It covers 20% of the earth surface and about 29% of its water surface area. It is a coveted location with semi-beach access, view, and seascape.

The drive down via route 17 set the stage for the ultimate unwind from the worlds stress and all that tax the psyche. By the time we reach interstate 64 - with Gabor Szabo “Keep Smiling “crooning over the high-end speakers the BMW X5 had to offer - the speed augmented; it was a no brainer the James River, Virginia longest river, signaled the Atlantic Ocean calling my spirit.

NEW MEMOIR FROM
ARMY CHAPLAIN DR. JAMES DARREN KEY SHARES A MESSAGE OF HOPE, FAITH AND MORE

Author and U.S. Army chaplain James Darren Key highlights 40 lessons and stories about race, love, honor, and faith to inspire people during changing times in his new memoir A Long Way from Crenshaw: Lessons and Stories about Race, Love, Honor, and Faith for These Changing Times (published by WestBow Press).

With the purpose of being accessible to all, the author writes in a conversational style. Exploring how life can change, and not always positively, he demonstrates how the human spirit can overcome those circumstances.

Additionally, Key speaks candidly about growing up Black in California in the 1970s and 1980s. Wanting to empower others, the author examines his own weaknesses and fears.

Through this study, he hopes to help people:

• recognize failures and successes along their journey;
• approach race and diversity with sensitivity and courage;
• heal from an unhealthy relationship before starting a new one;
• face trials and controversy with unshakable faith.

Atlantic Ocean Baptism

I felt the call earlier when visiting the venerable oncologist Dr.Imad Tabbara. After 9yrs of treatment I achieved the coveted status of NED (no evidence of disease) in my fight with multiple myeloma. Upon conveying the news to family and friends I, during a moment of reflection, got the idea of diving in the Atlantic Ocean as a metaphor of baptism.

We know in Mesopotamia life, in Egyptian civilization, African sacramental, and Mosaic law water was often used for cleansing, purification, and repentance. To comprehend that my bone marrow was no longer under ransomware attack mandated a ritual cleanse, physical purification, and cellular repentance …so I dove, undaunted, fully cloths, watch on my wrist, money in my pocket, unabashed, in God’s 2nd largest ocean for a metaphoric baptism.

As family and friends tried to discourage base upon real time data; its March, its windy, threatening waves, the water is cold, and it was. However, this was not a physical goal.

This act had spiritual roots as my outreach to God for a miracle played out on his terms for my natural assignment. Yes, the water was cold by all account but because I was given an exemption - by spiritual mandate - I was oblivious. In annotation I explained to a few that laying on a metal-radiation table in underwear represented my benchmark for being cold. However, every step, every move, and every heartbeat were for the dive as the waves approached unabated. I was alone on the beach except a life long friend who champion my mission to be cleanse. Truth be told I never felt a thing – not the wind, not the waves, not the reservation of love ones, and not the water. It was clearly God over matter. Never to forget the moment, the reason, and the walk out of the ocean – resurrected - free of a disease that sought to circumvent my natural life. Unquestionably, unequivocally, and unabashedly I am not the same person.

The captured video went to a few friends who sent it further to more individuals and soon a viral status ensued to show anyone who witness my watershed moment that miracles are part of the plan – be sure to grab yours. I celebrated mine on March 26, 2022, in 60-degree water, at 36.3803° N, 75.8308° W in 82 billion gallon of water - the Atlantic Ocean.
