Dr. Charles Singleton
Black News Scoop Publisher Kamau Austin

I caught up with Dr. Singleton and asked him some questions about his new book.

Kamau: Dr. Singleton can you tell me a little about your background and where you grew up?

Dr. Charles Singleton Answer: ...

"I was born, raised, and formally educated at Alston Elementary School and Alston High School in Summerville, South Carolina.  In 1968, I graduated with a bachelor of science degree from Elizabeth City State University, Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

As a Vietnam Era Veteran (1969-1971), I served in Vietnam in 1970 -1971.  Thus, continuing my education in 1971-1972, I received a master of arts degree from Atlanta University, Atlanta, Georgia.

Years later, in 1993, I earned a doctor of education degree from Nova Southeastern University, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.  In addition, I successfully completed several courses relating to the educational profession; earning certificates and recognition for my efforts.

I have been an education consultant since 1981 and a clinical consultant for the past 27 years (1993).  During my teaching career of 35 years, I taught children who attended public schools in Brooklyn, New York, Atlanta, Georgia and Decatur, Georgia."

Kamau:
What moved you to make a career in the education field?

Dr. Charles Singleton Answer: "I wanted to make education a career during my early scholastic years, while attending and studying at Alston High School in Summerville, South Carolina.  I had the extraordinary opportunity to be taught by a number of knowledgeable educators."

Kamau: What are the services you offer in consulting now?

Dr. Charles Singleton Answer: "Generally, the consulting services that I offer now are in the area of clinical research involving aging adults: wellness, memory and mobility.  Plus, I am a 15-year-county member of the Board of Equalization in the state of Georgia."

Kamau: What inspired you to write the book "Read Between The Lines?"

Dr. Charles Singleton Answer: "In my opinion, we must educate the total child.  Because, our precious children are the only persons who can maintain human existence on this earth."

Kamau: Can you give us a couple of tips on how to insure good education for our children?

Dr. Charles Singleton Answer: "How today's society affects the education of America’s young people will determine the course of human history for generations to come.  One of the most important goals of education is to instruct and to educate young people in becoming responsible citizens. Education is an invaluable resource because its tenets enable people to develop cognitively, physically, socially, and emotionally on an individual basis.

In addition, an effective educational curriculum promotes individual growth and development by providing students with the opportunities to acquire moral values, social skills, and health-related fitness."

Education is an invaluable resource because its tenets enable people to develop cognitively, physically, socially, and emotionally on an individual basis. In addition, an effective educational curriculum promotes individual growth and development by providing students with the opportunities to acquire moral values, social skills, and health-related fitness.

The maturation process of young people is developmental in nature. The process covers a period of growth from birth through early adulthood (0-21).

However, each person's developmental timetable is unique and completely different. Through the influence of genetics, parenting, socialization, gender, and environment, one individual may evolve with adequate life skills necessary for successful integration into society.

In contrast, however, another person of the very same age can develop such unacceptable behavioral traits as insolence, defiance, violence, disruption, disrespectfulness, and indolence. These inappropriate behavioral mechanisms frequently leave the person poorly prepared for a productive life.

It is the author's intent that the provocative essays that follow will help to inform and educate readers about the pressing need to save our children.
