🎭 A Beloved Career in the Spotlight

• Breakthrough Role: Malcolm‑Jamal Warner (born August 18, 1970 in Jersey City, NJ) skyrocketed to fame as Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show (1984–1992), earning an Emmy nomination in 1986. 

• Versatile Performer: He continued to shine in sitcoms like Malcolm & Eddie (1996–2000) and Reed Between the Lines (2011–2015), as well as dramas including Suits, Major Crimes, The Resident, 9‑1‑1, Alert: Missing Persons Unit, and Community Source People.com

• Music & Podcasting: Warner was a Grammy-winning musician (2015 Best Traditional R&B Performance) and co‑hosted the podcast Not All Hood (launched May 2024), exploring the multifaceted Black experience Source Wikipedia.

🌊 Tragic Passing in Costa Rica

• Fatal Accident: At age 54, Warner drowned on July 20, 2025, while swimming during a family vacation in Limón, Costa Rica. He was caught in a strong current, and authorities ruled the cause of death “asphyxia due to drowning” Source: People.com.

His Own Story of Healing to
Coach Others From

Present Pain to Future Purpose

Dr. Fredrick Jacobs, affectionately known as Dr. J, was at the height of his success, leading thriving businesses, mentoring ambitious entrepreneurs, guiding his family with unwavering strength and purpose, and formerly a respected radio and TV personality on the nationally syndicated station KJLH 102.3 owned by the legendary Stevie Wonder.

But in a single moment, his world caught fire. Two years ago, Dr. Jacobs survived a life-altering stroke.

What began as a splitting headache ended with him lying in a hospital bed, paralyzed by the realization that he could no longer show up for the people and businesses he had built his life around.

“Everything I knew, every strategy, every leadership principle, wasn’t enough to get me out of that bed,” he recalls. “God healed me, but I had to coach myself, one breath at a time, to rise again.”

After countless tests, doctors told him he had a beautiful heart and no lasting damage, but the man who walked out of that hospital was forever changed.

Fully cleared physically, he emerged with something far deeper: a renewed purpose.

But the fire wasn’t over. Not long after his recovery, Dr. Jacobs lost his father to cancer, a man he eulogized with both brokenness and honor.

“Losing my father reshaped me as a son, a leader, and a coach. I saw how fragile life is and how vital it is to use your pain as power,” he says.

Black Author Releases Futuristic Novel, “The United States of Africa,” Set in the Year 2525

 The United States of Africa is a futuristic new novel set in the year 2525, when Africa is united as one country with the world’s most powerful economy and military. The novel has been launched on Kickstarter by its author, Milton Allimadi, a journalist and PhD student in history who is seeking your support to complete the project.

Allimadi launched a successful Kickstarter campaign in 2023 for his book, ADWA: Princess Taytu & Emperor Menelik in Love & War. He’s looking for support on Kickstarter for this new project, which will be illustrated by Obedirwoth, the same artist who worked on ADWA.

SAG HARBOR, NY  The Black Authors Festival Fundraiser returns bigger and bolder for its Third Annual Celebration, a powerful day of literary excellence, cultural pride, and civic engagement, held on the first Saturday of August in beautiful Sag Harbor, New York. This year’s theme, “The Power of Literacy,” reinforces the Festival’s ongoing mission to raise funds and awareness, inspire action, and champion youth development and literacy equity. 

The Festival proudly honors some of the nation’s most influential voices, including: Sunny Hostin; Don Lemon; Marc H. Morial; Alton Fitzgerald White; Harriette Cole; Cheryl Wills; Pamela McBride; Attika J. Torrence; and Youth Author Honoree: Amaryllis Greene

Megan Thee Stallion’s Foundation to Honor Southern Black Girls Founder LaTosha Brown and 13-Year-Old Mental Health Advocate Mila Henry

 In a powerful demonstration of how investing in Black girls creates a pipeline of changemakers, Grammy Award-winning artist Megan Thee Stallion’s Pete & Thomas Foundation will honor Southern Black Girls and Women’s Consortium founder LaTosha Brown alongside 13-year-old mental health advocate Mila Henry at its inaugural gala.

Taking place July 16, 2025, at Gotham Hall in New York City, the black-tie affair will be hosted by actress Taraji P. Henson, featuring performances by Muni Long and entertainment by DJ D-Nice. The gala will benefit initiatives focused on education, housing, and health and wellness in underserved communities.

“The 100” roots in New York State are Historic in the Village of Hempstead, Nassau County, Suffolk County, New York City, and Surrounding Areas

Hempstead, New York - The first chapter of “The 100” began in New York City and arose out of the need for social action and the need for Black Men to come together and organize to be able to have a positive impact on their communities’ problems and challenges in a positive manner.  

 

The first chapter of “The 100” was named the 100 Black Men of New York, Inc.

Many of the members of the initial chapter in New York City worked in the city, and in the 1970’s and around that they set us a meeting with the NYC chapter to have a conversation to ascertain if a chapter could be established on Long Island. 

 

The goal was to establish a chapter in the region that likewise had challenges that needed to be addressed through social action and bringing together black men under a structure to address both challenges and opportunities.

 

“100 Black Men of America, Inc. was established in 1986.  “I was fortunate to be at “The 100” meeting in Hempstead when the vote was taken by the membership to join 100 Black Men of America, Inc. as a member chapter, and the chapter was identified as a founding chapter of America’s prominent and premiere mentoring organization in the United States.” Phil Andrews, Founding President, 100 Black Men of Eastern New York, Inc.
