H.R. 40 - THE STUDY OF REPARATIONS: HOW AMERICA REMEMBERS AND DEFINES AFRICAN-AMERICAN ENSLAVEMENT?

Nationwide -- House Resolution Bill 40, (named for the 40 acres and a mule black people never got) introduced by Congresswoman Sheila Jackson Lee, if passed, establishes the Commission to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African-Americans to examine slavery (enslavement) and discrimination in the colonies and the United States from 1619 to the present and recommend appropriate remedies.

Former Congressman John Conyers had introduced a similar bill every year for over 30 years - and it laid dormant in the hallowed halls of Congress because America refused to remember she suffers from long-term amnesia when it comes to her involvement in the Christian/Atlantic enslavement trade.

Congresswoman Jackson timed her announcement to coincide with the celebration of Juneteenth. I guess this was an attempt to use historical facts to help America with her loss of memory and to help bring her up-to-date on the horrors of her past and present state of affairs when it comes to paying a debt long overdue:

REPARATION (repe'raSHen) - "work done" payments to enslaved African-Americans who were forced to work as free labor solely for converting the American economy into a SUPER ECONOMIC POWERHOUSE thus creating THE AMERICAN DREAM out of an AMERICAN NGHTMARE; to indemnify African-Americans who gave rise to America's economic system - CAPITALISM - with the toil of their enslaved labor; with the sacrifice of their human bodies traded as capital; and with their knowledge of agriculture to work the land - making COTTON KING!; to make a people whole again as a result of the brutal, inhumane, and monstrous treatment by people of European (now Americans) descent inclusive of but not limited to: 250 years of enslavement; 90 years of Jim Crow; 60 years of separate but equal; 35 years of state-sanctioned redlining; restitution for using African-Americans as human raw material for the prison/military/industrial complex; recompense for psychological and physical harassment, as well as, unarmed killings by police for walking, running, driving, swimming, biking, drinking coffee, gardening, looking suspicious, and just breathing air. --

EDUCATOR LAUNCHES STEAM BOOK SERIES FOR MIDDLE GRADE STUDENTS

Nationwide -- Dr. Doresa A. Jennings recently launched a campaign on Kickstarter that has already made its minimum US $2,000 and is encouraged to see an increase in pledges for the remaining period of the campaign. The STEAM Chasers is a book series that follows six characters (Shar, Terrence, Ebony, Akiya, Marcus, and Chase) as they learn more about Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math (STEAM) as they discover contributions that Black Americans have made to our everyday lives through the STEAM fields.

The STEAM Chasers is a Middle Grade book series, and the first book is subtitled, "We Made That!" It is an own voices series that delves into themes of social justice along with an exploration of science, technology, engineering, art, and math.

The characters are relatable and bring six distinct Black American voices to the Middle Grade reader.  The purpose of the Kickstarter campaign is to get as many copies of the STEAM Chasers: We Made That! book in the hands of kids in homes, libraries, and schools as possible.

The campaign is also aiming to raise funds to produce the book in an audio format to be accessible to students with learning and/or physical differences that require them to have an audiobook accommodation. Rewards offered include digital posters, digital copies of the book, print copies of the book, signed printed copies of the book, and "STEAM Chaser kits" that include logoed backpacks and other STEAM themed items.

Backers can also sponsor books to be given to libraries, classrooms, and schools of their choice.

"WHEN THEY SEE US" - A TOUR DE FORCE ILLUMINATING BLACK INJUSTICE IN AMERICA

Nationwide -- I didn't want to take this ride. I knew film director Ava DuVernay would take me on a journey to destinations where new journeys begin - invariably in search of justice for black people in America.

I'm never ready for the emotional roll-a-coaster; the gut-wrenching; soul-stirring horror DuVernay's films evoke. But history demands I face my fears to connect the dots which tie our enslavement story together. With trepidation lurking, I pushed the start button for this Netflix movie: When They See Us.

The four-part series begins with a group of young black boys caught between the innocence of youth and the dignity of manhood embarking on a "boys will be boys" truant adventure in New York City's Central Park. In search of fun and escapades, five of these young boys would have their lives altered in ways they never envisioned or imagined.

At the end of the day all five young boys would beckon for the same outcome: "I just want to go home." The yearning for the actualization of this mantra becomes the basis for their unjust incarceration.

Nationwide  -- On the anniversary of Juneteenth, the National African American Reparations Commission and American Civil Liberties Union will hold a national forum titled "Healing and Reconciliation: H.R. 40 and S. 1083 and the Promise of Reparations for African Americans." AFRICAN AMERICAN DEBUT NOVELIST AGNES GOMILLION CONFRONTS RACISM IN VISCERAL AND THRILLING NEAR-FUTURE DYSTOPIA - THE RECORD KEEPER

Atlanta, GA, New York, NY, London, UK --  Agnes Gomillion's debut, The Record Keeper [Titan Books, June 18, 2019] is the first of a series of Afro-futuristic novels that trace and illuminate an African-American family's journey from slavery to relative freedom in the American South. BLACK INVENTOR LAUNCHES “PICK MY BRAIN” FLASH CARDS & TOUR TO HELP ENTREPRENEURS

Greensboro, NC  Starting on June 22, 2019, Dreams Inspire Reality Consulting will take their "Pick My Brain" flash cards on a national tour. The tour is inspired by Tara Darnley, a Black inventor and entrepreneur.
