TEACHER CELEBRATES BLACK HISTORICAL FIGURES AND MILLIONAIRES WITH NURSERY RHYME BOOK

Los Angeles, CA  “I was shocked after I visited a first-grade classroom and asked the students to name the first Black president,” said author Audrey Muhammad. “I was surprised that many of the students said, ‘Martin Luther King.’” Granted, they were 6-year olds and Barack Obama was President over 12 years ago, but there had to be a way to help keep our history at the forefront.

Why not make rhymes about each? This is exactly what Mrs. Muhammad did. After revising and updating her children’s book, she now has nursery rhymes like “Off to White House,” a rhyme about Obama.

Since many adults grew up with nursery rhymes and can recite rhymes like “Mary had a Little Lamb,” at the drop of a hat, these nursery rhymes were written to be a fun formula to foster love for Black role models including Black millionaires, entrepreneurs, and historical figures. The new Rhymes of the Times: Black Nursery Rhymes book written by Mrs. Muhammad, a former high school teacher, reads like a “Who’s Who” of African American History with nursery rhymes about Oprah Winfrey, Martin Luther King, Barack Obama, Malcolm X, Harriet Tubman, Rosa Parks, Garrett Morgan, Muhammad Ali, Queen N’Zinga and many more.

If you don’t recognize some of these names, you will after reading this book. The book also helps express cultural pride.

NEW PRODUCT ALLEVIATES PAIN THAT BLACK WOMEN SUFFER FROM TIGHT BRAIDS

Fayette, AL -- Braided hairstyles are an integral part of Black culture. They are worn for convenience, as a fashion statement, and also adorned as a bold statement of pride. Braids require proper maintenance to help the style last longer and look its best while keeping natural hair healthy and protected. Tight braids, however, can leave the scalp feeling painfully sore. For this reason, Rose Bianco, a formulator at Topical Solutions, has developed a scalp formula with no tar, petroleum, sulfur, or harsher ingredients - a formula that offers immediate relief from burning pain and itching, even when hair is freshly braided.

The company fully understands the itchiness and discomfort that comes with styling Black hair. They invested in developing Too Tight Scalp Saver to provide a solution that soothes scalp pain caused by braids and weave styles. Made from a combination of natural emollients, essential oils, and a mild anesthetic, this formula relieves the physical pain experienced when cornrows pinch and weave tracks pull, bind, and constrict.

TWO BLACK FORMER COLLEGE ROOMMATES CLOSE HISTORIC DEAL ON $8.3 MILLION HOTEL

Nationwide -- When Davonne Reaves and Jessica Myers met as college students in the early 2000s, they never imagined they’d one day become business partners. Owning a hotel? Well, that was not even on the radar for the hospitality and journalism majors, then deeply entrenched into their studies.

As two young African American women who’d grown up in working-class families in the South, the mere idea of hotel ownership seemed unfathomable. Some 11 years later, the fellow Georgia State University alum have done just that – and they are believed to have made history in the process.

Atlantans Myers and Reaves, both 33, formed a hotel ownership group of mostly millennials, partnered with Nassau Investments to acquire the Home2 Suites by Hilton El Reno, Oklahoma, located about 30 miles from Oklahoma City. Their investment into the $8.3 million deal is believed to have earned them the notable distinction of becoming the youngest African American women to ever co-own a property in a major hotel chain.

“I never thought by the time I was 33 that I'd be a hotel owner, but I admit that it feels great to have accomplished that at this point in my life," says Reaves, mom to a 2-year old son. "Making history in the process, well that’s just icing on the cake!"

Myers says the venture overall was a solid investment, but it also ties into some “big picture” goals that she and Reaves share: “Statistically only two percent of hotel owners are African-American, and we want to change that,” she says. "There's a big void there and we want to help fill it."

GROUP OF INVESTORS SEEK TO GROW HUNDREDS OF BLACK-OWNED START-UP BUSINESSES

Irvington, NJ -- Meet Mark Davenport and Denise Milton, two managing members of The New Black Wall Street Investors who are using skills learned successfully running small businesses in inner-city neighborhoods to guide more black entrepreneurs. And they have gathered other black businessmen and women who share their vision.

Adequate funding for this initiative is their next big challenge.

The widespread economic troubles brought on by the pandemic have not lessened entrepreneurial spirit or innovation in urban communities, they believe. It has only redirected resources toward relief and away from development.

A situation their group is striving to remedy in disadvantaged neighborhoods.
