TOP 11 MISCONCEPTIONS MANY AFRICAN AMERICANS HAVE ABOUT CORONAVIRUS

Nationwide --  Coronavirus, also known scientifically as COVID-19, has been a global nightmare. One by one, the virus has infiltrated nearly every country and about 10% of those who have contracted the virus have died. Sadly, there are many African Americans who still don't fully understand what the virus is, and how to prevent it.

Here are the top 11 most common misconceptions that many in the Black community have:

#1 - Black People Can't Get It: This is simply not true. To date, at least three African American NBA players have contracted the virus. In addition, several African nations including Rwanda, Nigeria, and Kenya have all reported individuals who have tested positive for the viral. Therefore, Black people are not immune to the virus.

#2 - Vodka Kills the Virus: Most vodka brands are only 40 percent alcohol, and that is not high enough to effectively kill microbes. The CDC recommends using handsaniter that contains at least 60 percent alcohol.

#3 - You Need Health Insurance to Be Tested: Definitely not true. The U.S. government has mandated free testing to all individuals who have the symptoms of Coronavirus. All hospitals are required to comply, but not all hospitals may have enough test kits. In addition, there may be a long waiting line to get tested...

COVID-19 ALERT of The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs 2020 By HBCU-ECSU Wellness Writer Dr. Charles Singleton

Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) ALERT of The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs 2020  Overton Brooks VA Medical Center: Stay Informed About The Coronavirus

Face Masks?

U.S. 20th Surgeon General Dr. Jerome M. Adams

Wearing facemasks could actually increase a person's risk of contracting COVID-19, ‘the Novel Coronavirus Disease that causes respiratory illness in humans.’ You can increase your risk of getting it by wearing a mask if you are not a health care provider.  Folks who don't know how to wear them properly tend to touch their faces a lot and actually can increase the spread of coronavirus,"  says Dr. Jerome M. Adams, U.S. Surgeon General.  “Surgical facemasks help keep infected people from spreading the coronavirus, but they don’t do a whole lot in terms of keeping healthy people from getting the virus.” --- Jennifer Vines, Multnomah County’s health officer,  Multnomah County Oregon.

Novel Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) ALERT of The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs 2020

Each One Teach One,” Highly Decorated U. S. Army Veteran, HBCU-ECSU Wellness Educator, Dr. Charles L. Singleton, Clinical Research Volunteer of the Year, the ATLANTA VA HEALTH CARE SYSTEM (AVAHCS) reminds us, in this most problematic time of "severe viral uncertainty," that "each person teaches another to learn about staying well at living, during all stages of life." Therefore, each of us must continually use precautionary measures and due diligence throughout our daily lives to improve optimal wellbeing and public health.

Singleton is sincerely hoping that everyone will seriously understand and precautionarily consider the COVID-19 ALERT of The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs 02/25/2020.  Simply because, the possibility of a “severe medical Infectious disease spread” could put many people at risk for becoming infected from this sickness.

MEET THE FIVE STATE LAWMAKERS LEADING THE CHARGE FOR THE NEXT ROUND OF MASS INCARCERATION

Atlanta, GA -- Activists in Georgia say a new bill being proposed by five state lawmakers will lead to the mass incarceration of children as young as 13. It's known as the Gang Bill (House Bill 994), and it was sponsored by State Representatives Bert Reeves, Barry Fleming, Chuck Efstration, Andy Welch, and Ginny Ehrhart.

The bill comes on the heels of Georgia making substantial changes to reform the criminal justice system. By the end of former Governor Nathan Deal's final term, the State had created an accountability court, reduced mandatory minimum sentences, allowed prosecutors to choose diversion programs, and reduced certain nonviolent felonies to misdemeanor offenses.
